Paris to Buene
 

We will be traveling to Buene from Paris - what is the best way to get there? Do we need to rent a car when we get to Buene (we will only be staying 2 nights). Also, has anyone stayed at Hotel Le Cep? Anything special we need to see in Buene?

I know you can take the train to Dijon, and rent a car (which would be nice -- the area is supposed to be wonderful. We'll be there in May so I can't speak from experience yet, just plannning)

I've made that drive and have stayed at Le Cep---a lovely and comfortable little hotel. I'd recommend it highly as it is inside the city walls, on the city square right near the Hospice. As for what to see, inquire at the hotel desk. It's very easy to see Beaune in a day, even considering you will probably want to visit the wine museum and sample some of their wines.<BR><BR>You seem to imply that you are NOT going to Beaune by car, so I assume you are going by train. You'll have to get a taxi from the Beaune train station to the hotel. You won't need a car if you do stay in the town and just wander around.<BR><BR>The &quot;best way&quot; to get there leaves me wondering whether you mean the route, or the mode of transportation, or both. Anyway, Beaune is an easy train ride of about 3 hours. If you do rent a car to go there, take the A8 autoroute and it goes right by Beaune. If I were driving, I'd plan to stop for lunch at Vezelay, where you could also enjoy a visit to the chateau. The drive should not be more than 4 hours, if you don't count the time to get out of Paris. Good luck.

Ira, Beaune is the capital of Burgundy, and is about 300 KMs or 200 miles directly southeast of Paris. It's a wonderful town!

Duh, guess I've turned into such a lousy speller, I never once even realized that it was spelled wrong here -- not once, but 5 times, including your question!!!

Well, that was rather a pointless exercise, then. If the grad students had actually done some research, they would have discovered an historic trend of people on this site trying to help those who are keyboard-challenged, and even those who miss a few details when they ask questions. My favorite example was when someone asked about the hotel with the red awning across from a cafe....

There are direct TGV trains twice a day from Paris (Gare de Lyon) to Beaune. Dep Paris at 7:34 (arr Beaune at 9:40) or 17:44 (arr 19:51). Many more departures if you change to local train in Dijon.

I'm tagging on to this very old post with a bit different question on behalf of a friend.

She'll end up in Beaune at the end of a barge trip, and flys out of Geneva 3 days later. She will travel by train. Any ideas?

I'm trying to talk her into going to Vevey/Montreux area but she was thinking it might make more sense to stay in France until heading to the airport.

You might suggest to your friend that she go up to Annecy for a few days--beautiful area. It's near the Swiss border, too.
