Paris to Beaune....is it really 80euro each per person?

I check the sncf site and it looks like it is about 80 euro per person each way...are those just the dates I chose, or is that a realistic price? After travelling Italy last year by train, this seems a bit high.

Thanks!

Hi jamikins,

I looked for a ticket for April 20 and got a 25E PREM fare to Dijon. Another 30E to Beaune.

OOPS

That should be 6E Dijon to Beaune.

It's hard to say without knowing what dates you were trying to book and what class. That doesn't seem that unusual to me if it is for a close date, and for first class, and thus there wouldn't be any advanced purchase discount. Part of that is by TGV (most of it) and TGV runs are often not cheap, and the trip is almost 3 hours.

If you buy far in advance, it should be more like 25-40 euro per person, 2nd class. The 25 euro PREM fare has restrictions -- I think nonrefundable and nonchangeable, and it isn't for all runs (but they do have those fares on that route).

Just to add that the TGV ticket can vary widely in price depending on the hours. You might want to check the prices for several departures the same day at different hours. That's what I did last month while going to a town close to Beaune..Unfortunately, I don't remember how it costed, but it certainly wasn't 80 Euros each way. It was in 2nd class, though, and I got a discount because I stayed overnight during on a weekend day.

By the way, I don't think you really need to travel 1st class on this route, if it's what you intend to do. 2nd class is fine, IMO.

Thanks for the tips, we are looking at Spet 10-18 sometime, and I will definitely check 2nd class. I know they dont sell tix this early, but I was just pricing it out for May to see what we were looking at.

Thanks again!

The day of the week on which you'll be travelling can affect the price, but you can get discounts for 2 people travelling together.
