Hi zola
I wasn't at all intending to criticize your criticism, just puzzled by your mentioning the stench of smoke so vehemently and then saying you'd probably stay there again because of the price.
I'm a non smoker too, not a fanatic about it but I hate the smell of stale smoke, especially in closed quarters.
I just wanted to encourage you to consider alternatives that are also clean and budget-friendly but without such an overpowering odor.

Merci for the link to the article, degas.

"...and had dessert in the lush gardens of the elegant Musée Rodin..."

I love those gardens, a wonderful oasis in that part of Paris.

Well, I think I failed sufficiently to express the irony of the situation. Save for the smoking issue, this hotel is quite a bargain with a friendly, warm staff. I therefore continue to hope that the problem will be eliminated (or significantly reduced), because it is an otherwise (budget)traveler's gem. That's why I responded in the manner I did.

In the meantime, any suggestions you have would be more than welcome.

I know that non-smoking rooms are not as prevelent in european hotels, but I do believe the are available in some.

Perhaps someone can recommend Paris hotel that offers non-smoking rooms.

Suki, it was pretty good, but not what you get in Paris! Still, one must keep trying.

gretchen:

I have heard Hotel Muguet mentioned favorably in other quarters. Do you a further description or review?

elaine:

Thanks for your patience and the suggestions. For some reason, me thinks your budget, however, is a little higher than mine, but I'll research these names anyway in hopes of hitting pay dirt. It'd be nice to have viable alternatives.
