Paris - Taxi fare
 

Would be interested in knowing the cost of a taxi fare (including 2 suitcases) from Gare de Lyon to the Marais district (métro: Saint Paul). From CDG-T3 we are planning to use Les-cars-Air-France from the airport to the Gare de Lyon and then take a taxi to our hotel.

Our other option is to use RoissyBus from CDG-T3 to Place de l'Opéra and then a taxi to le Marais. What will be our fare then?

Gare de Lyon is a lot closer, might as well choose that. I'd say it was about 1.5 miles (or 3 km) from there to your destination and about twice that distance from the Opera. I'd guess your fare from Gare de Lyon might be around 8-10 euro unless there was really bad traffic that held the car up for a long time (which seems unlikely). There are some base fees you can't escape, of course, even though the distance isn't great. So, the extra distance from the Opera would add only a couple euro (and would deduct .70 euro for the charge from a train station). I guess either way would thus work without a big difference, but it might be easier to figure out how to find a taxi at the gare (I don't think taxi ranks are right next to the Roissy dropoff point).

Good point about taxis always being available at the gare.

It might not be much more to just taxi from the airport. Is the Roissy bus about 10€? Then the taxi to the Marais is maybe around 10 for a total of 30. Taxi would be about 45€. There is a difference but for two, not a whole lot for the convenience of getting your trip jump started.

How many are traveling? The Air France coach to Gare de Lyon is 11.50 euro per person, add that to the taxi fare to your hotel and you're within 10 euros or so of the cost of a taxi from CDG, assuming there are 2 of you. If there are more than 2 of you, then there will be no overall cost savings.

Just to add another alternative, once you are at the Gare de Lyon, it is only 2 metro stops to St. Paul on the 1 line. So if your bags aren't too cumbersome, that would be pretty simple and only cost you about 25 euros total including the Air France Bus.

After reviewing all our options, we probably will be using Paris Shuttle. They charge 19&euro; per person door to door (CDG-T3 to our hotel) including our 2 suicases plus tip. We think it's the best service offered.

jet29, please be careful of paris shuttle. in march, i used paris shuttle and made my reservation on the internet via a credit card. when i took th eshuttle to my hotel, the driver said they had screwed the reservation up and i had to pay in cash. of course, the charge still showed on my credit card statement. when i called , they said they would credit my credit card, but they never did. i still am trying to get them to give me my credit. same thing happened on my return.

a taxi should run you about the same.

jet29, 38 Euros plus a tip is little (if any) advantage over the cost of a taxi and it will leave you dorking around with a shuttle service instead of just grabbing a cab as you leave the terminal. I agree with starrsville.

I would never prepay for a shuttle. If you wait and wait and they don't come, what recourse do you have? They will probably just say you couldn't be found or didn't show up. And meanwhile you couldn't just grab a taxi without losing the money you already spent.

And just another agreeing--just take the taxi door to door and hit the ground running for your Paris trip. After an overnight flight, help yourself out a bit. The difference won't be very much honestly.

Another vote for taxi all the way or bus and taxi. A shuttle often has other passengers to pick up and drop off. It’s not the time this takes (Hey, we're on vacation, what’s the rush?) it’s the thought of making idle conversation with total strangers when I just want to stare out the window and get myself into Paris mode (other introverts will understand).

One advantage of the bus/taxi option is that if you get a taxi driver who is training for Le Mans you have fewer moments of sheer terror.

We (2) have used the shuttle at least 4 times RT, booked and prepaid thru BA and never had a problem. Enjoyed conversing with the other passengers when we had them. Three times we were the only passengers and at no time were there more than 2 stops.

Thanked the lord a few times while in stalled traffic that we weren't watching the meter click over.

So many helpful comments and so many decisions!

Thank you all for your input and in the end it's a toss-up between the two services. We'll decide at the last minute what to do.
