Paris Subway or Uber
I am not a big Uber fan... but with four people, is it cheaper or similar in price to jump in an Uber than deal with the subway in Paris? I am kind of fed up with the subway lately living in NYC. Thanks

Probably cheaper to take the Metro, especially if you have to go some distance. Plus, the Metro may save significant time in heavy traffic. |
Metro, buses, taxis (a taxi for 4 would not be expensive at all for the few journeys where it would make sense)
|
Uber was not that expensive for my friend and me for most rides (I think we took about 5 total) in March, but my concern is that most Uber cars would not fit 4 people. I can't remember what the options in the app are, but that might be a more expensive car.
We took the buses the rest of the time. I'm familiar with the metro, but buses were great for actually seeing Paris, and no need to climb up and down various flights of stairs. |
Metro tickets are 1.49€ each when bought by carnet of 10.

I love the metro and bus system in Paris.

Being "fed up" with a transportation system in one city is the reason you think you might not like one in another?

Metro! The Paris metro is so easy and convenient, I can't imagine not wanting to use it. Unless of course you have mobility issues, then the stairs could pose a problem.
|
I think our subway in New York compares poorly with that of London and Paris (and Mexico City, for that matter).
|
RubyTwins, you didn't mention the bus. I either took a bus or a cab. The bus got me to all the sites I wished to visit. Their added benefit is that you can see outside! My DH and I used the metro back when we had great legs so the stairs were no problem. Got leg issues? I don't remember any escalators in Metro.
There are G7 taxis in Paris--someone else can report about them. |
I lately have a bone to pick with Uber in Paris, but check out Kapten (used to be ChauffeurPrivé). *Almost always cheaper than Uber. *More professional drivers. And certainly cheaper and in my humble opinion better than taxis. *Download the app before you arrive in Paris. there is one advantage to city taxis, they can use the bus lanes. *But in my experience it’s always a worse experience than Kapten.* |
Buses often more convenient than metro - stops near where you are going and easy access and nice views as opposed to metro. That said Paris is very walkable if you group your sights.
|
We found that when the Metro required 2 (or more) changes to get from here to there, there often would be a single bus ride that did the same thing.
|
The bus routes change on April 20th for the first time in 60 years, so do not rely on any old bus maps.

Kerouac: Now THAT is a useful bit of information. Thank you!
