Paris strikes
 

Yesterday many museums were closed, some re-opened in the afternoon. Metro was only running about 30% of the trains. Today it appears strikes will continue.

Even museums open on Tue were closed due to strike. Today, Wed., many major museums were still closed. Trains and metro cancelled about 50% of trains. No end in sight for this strike.

Due to fly Atlanta to Berlin via Paris on 10/20. Air France
website doesn't even mention the strike. Any suggestions? Should I cancel? Take a chance on being "trapped" at CDG for who knows how long? This is my first trip over and I could use some input.

I don't know how anyone could get "trapped at CDG," unless the RATP and all taxis and shuttle buses were on strike, which I highly doubt is the case.

Why would the strike affect the Air France bus? Isn't that still running from CDG? In addition to all the taxis and shuttles and everything else.

I should have posted differently. When I said "trapped at CDG" I meant unable to get to my final destination, Berlin. With many short haul flights canceled, I fear getting to Berlin in a timely manner could be a gamble.

The strikes have for all practical purposes ended, except for the oil refineries.

The strikes have ended? Great! But now I need something else to worry about. How about the Euro? :-)

I'm in the US, with tickets to CDG for the 16th arriving the morning of the 17th. From what I'm reading it doesn't seem that the strikes have ended at all. On the contrary, I just read that the truckers have voted to strike starting on Sunday at midnight and will be putting up roadblocks on major roadways. I'm amazed that the government can't prevent that from happening. It does sound like they will succeed in crippling the country.

At the moment, all eyes are on the high school students, who are completely unpredictable.

Meanwhile, 10% of the service stations are now dry, not due to the strike but due to panic buying.

Took the RER to Versailles today. The train to Versailles Rive Gauche wasn't running, but we took another train and just had to walk for about 20 minutes to get to the palace.

CNN said tonight that Paris airports have enough jet fuel on hand to last the weekend, but after that it's all gone. More demonstrations are due Sat. and Tues. Other than this news, I haven't seen any changes in Paris due to the strikes. However, if we can't fly home next week, Paris isn't going to be my favorite place anymore.

Today the D'Orsay and Pompideau Museums were open again. But it's unpredictable what the strikers will do next. Today, also, the metro trains were running near normal. For more strike news go to http://tiny.cc/59ulq
