Paris SOS

Jules Verne Rest in Eiffel Tower - Does he need a jacket and tie? Has anyone purchased the tourist card for museums and monuments where you don't have to wait in line and have a reduced rate to lots of places? What kind of clothes are appropriate for a woman tourist doing the usual things? WE ARE LEAVING IN 2 DAYS. Thank you. Thank you. Sandy

Sandy, I do believe that you do need a jacket and tie for Jules Verne.

Sandy, I do believe you need a jacket and tie for Jules Verne. In any event he should bring them because it would be a pity not to be allowed because of the lack. When we went there my husband wore a sport coat and tie and fit right in.

If you are planning on visiting a number of museums and monuments in Paris, the Carte Musee is well worth the money. Saves you lots of time, particularly at the Louvre and Versailles. It is not good at the Eiffel Tower. Have a great time!

As for the jacket and tie, my husband rarely leaves home without one. Usually wears the jacket on the plane, and the tie is small enough to fit in the suitcase without taking up precious space.

I would suggest that it is in good taste to wear a jacket to dinner at all nice restaurants around the world! If in doubt whether it is a nice place or not, wear one and you won't be embarrased-you can always take it off if you are not at a really nice one and feel out of place.

I just returned from Paris. The tourists definitely stand out in their shorts and running shoes!! I felt out of place except when I was at the monuments and so forth, in mine. The Parisien women are always in skirts and shoes and are simply lovely. I would take comfortable walking sandals and shoes and long or short summer skirts with a little sweater to tie around your neck, especially in the evenings when it's cool. Nice slacks with pretty shoes would do the trick as well. Do notice the French walk, with shoulders back, head upright with an air of confidence and no movement in the upper body, just a sway of the bottom!! Tres chic....I'm practicing it here!! Have fun!!

Just got back from Paris. (As a woman)I felt comfortable in dress slacks and nice tops. Saw others in sporty shorts and tank tops and thought they looked underdressed for Paris. But I doubt anyone would say anything. Since it is a real working city, people tend to dress quite well. I did wear black walking shoes, which were necessary for the walking we were doing. Thought they were better looking and less obtrusive than white athletic shoes, but wish they could have looked a little more stylish. Oh, well, there was no way I could have done the walking we did in more stylish shoes. Hope you have a great time. We did. <BR>
