Paris - Smart Media Readers
 

Bonjour,

We will be visiting Paris during Easter and expect to take a TON of pictures with our digital camera. Does anyone know of a cyber cafe that has smart media readers where I can upload my pictures to the internet or burn to a CD? Thanks for your help.

There are lots of cybercafés but I don't know if they have SmartMedia readers. I take my laptop and download the photos every night and burn them onto a CD. That way I have them on my computer and on a CD. If you have a laptop, that's a great way to go.

Hopefully someone here will answer your question, but you might do a search on cybercafés on Google or another search engine. If any of them have e-mail addresses or phone numbers, you could check and see if they have ther SM readers.

Rather than cybercafés, photo development counters should have the necessary hardware, so you can upload your pics and have them burnt onto a CD.

For example, you could try the FNAC (chain store selling books, music, software, hardware, etc.). I often see people at the photo counter uploading their pictures - I assume that all standard memory formats are supported.

In Paris, there is a FNAC on the Champs Elysées that's open late, and on Sundays. There's another at St Lazare, another on Rue de Rennes, one in Les Halles, one at La Défense...

Another option is Photo Station, a photo development chain with branches all over the place (rue de Rivoli, av de l'Opéra, rue St Lazare, rue Mouffetard, etc.). Of course, there are many other photo places as well that should be able to burn your pics onto CD - these are just the two that sprung to my mind.

Go to cybercafe.com for a list of cybercafes worldwide. I have found it to be accurate.

With the price of a smart reader down to under $10, and as small as a book of matches, just take one with you, and plug into anyones USB port.

All of the cybercafes we visited in London and Paris in April 2003 had disabled or were in the process of disabling the USB connections on their public computers for security reasons. There may be some that do have USB ports available for use, but finding them could be difficult. The idea of going to a photo counter and having a CD burned sounds ideal to me! :)
