Paris sightseeing cruise

We will be in Paris at the end of July. We were looking online at the Bateaux Vedettes du Pont-Neuf Seine River boat tour with an 11Euro discount if you book online. Has anyone toured the Seine? Is it better at night? Dinner cruise? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Jon V

We did the Bateaux Vedettes cruise at night. We printed the 2.00 off coupon from the website and took that with us so the cruise cost 9 Euros per adult. Unfortunately for us, a group of approx 70 school children got on the same cruise.

I was far from romantic...and we couldn't hear the onboard commentary. We took a similar cruise the last time we were in Paris and it was lovely...luck of the draw.

I took a dinner cruise with Bateaux Parisien years ago and it was nice. The food was just ok...but we were with a group so it was a nice evening.

I would wait until you get to Paris to book the cruise as you never know what the weather is going to be like.

We chose the Bateaux Vedettes tour because of the discount coupon. I am fluent in french but could not understand a word he said in french or english. Perhaps the sound is the same on all the tours. If you don't care about the commentary it's still a neat thing to do and I will be doing it again this September but will try another company.

HI JV,

> Has anyone toured the Seine?

Nope. You will be the very first one. Tell us about it when you get back. :)

>Is it better at night?

It is different.

If you will only do one, do the evening cruise, just before dusk, so you can see the ET lit up.

>Dinner cruise?

Not really worth the money. The food isn't particularly good, and it is costly.

Enjoy your visit.

I've done both Bateaux Mouches and Vedettes and really couldn't understand all the commentary on either boat. I do prefer the Vedettes as they have a person doing the commentary and you can ask questions. Pick up a brochure at the ticket window which will describe each major building you're passing. This helps better understand the commentary.

I prefer the night cruises as I love the lights along the river and the Eiffel Tower sparkling on the hour. There's too much else to do during the day to spend an hour on the boat.

I wouldn't do the dinner cruise - have a nice dinner someplace (better food for less money) and then hop on the boat.

BTW - the discount is not 11 Euro - that's the full price ticket. Discounts are either 2 or 4 Euro.

I too have done both and prefer the Vedettes, but the difference is not so great it really matters.

I would advise against a dinner cruise and opt for a nice dinner somewhere nearby after the cruise.

I prefer the big bateaux-mouches at Alma, since you can wander up and down stairs and on all sides of the boat during the cruise.

I prefer the Bateaux Mouches, also. They're higher off the water for better views. Also enjoy much more room to walk around - and get away from noisy groups.
