paris side trip

We have a day we could set aside for a day trip out of Paris. We have two choices: Brugges or Brussells. Those who have gone to either, may I get some insight? Thanks.

I liked both. Bruges is very lovely but for a day trip I would go to which ever place had the quicker train so you can make the most of your day.

I think ? you have to change for Bruges and that just adds to the stress of the day.

Unless you are driving??

Old Bruges is very pretty, and there are canal rides you can take. But if you want to eat in a restaurant, prices are excessively high for what you get.
The center of old Brussels is quite pretty also (outer sections are dreadful), but it is a real city that offers greater opportunity for shopping and restaurants with normal prices.
Brussels being much easier to get to, I would definitely choose Brussels for only one day.

Between Bruges and Brussels I found Bruges to be very pretty and charming so my recommendation is to visit Bruges.

Thanks for the quick response. Is there a a bit of the old Bruges in Brussells? I can get a day trip to Bruges with a tour group. Brussells, I have to rely on the train(thalys)? I think the price would cost about the same. Thanks again.

Brugges is very charming and small ( can be very crowded on weekends).
Brussels has a nice central area, a good Museum of Modern art and a zillion restaurants.
If you wish a change from a big city to a small town, than Brugges, if you would like to see another city ( smaller than Pris)Brussels.
