Paris short-term apartment rentals
 

Does anybody know of any sites for rentals of short-term (less than a week, say 4-5 days) apartments in Paris?

Sometimes www.Parisperfect.com will offer 5 nights. And if you rent one of their totally remodeled, updated, tres jolie apartments...you will want to stay a week! We stayed in the Romanee 1 1/2 blocks from the Eiffel Tower (great view of it from our windows)and two blocks from the Seine. We plan to stay with them whenever we're in Paris as the experience was so special.

Vacationinparis.com is one agency that offers properties for four nights. You'll have more options for 5-night rentals, for example, the guestapartment.fr site states that they have a 5-night minimum during low season. As I recall, some agencies rent weekly but not necessarily at a fixed day of the week and so sometimes have odd intervals available.

We used www.paris4ever.com for our recent 4 night stay. They usually say 5 days minimum but, because it's low season, they allowed us to stay for only 4. Couldn't fault them in the slightest.

I think most of the Parisian vacation apt. rental website I've seen rent apts for less than a week (with a few apts that may be noted as exceptions due to their owner's requirements), although five days is often a minimum, not four. I wouldn't bother myself for such a short time frame. Often, the price is higher for a shorter term, also, so you may end up paying for it as if it were a week. My experience with rentparis was very positive. We rented apartment #2 on rue Chapon three years ago and it got me hooked on apartment renting. I am in fact in an apartment in Paris right now, arrived this morning, but this time I'm renting from www.private-paris.com. I don't know whether they have rentals for shorter than a week, though.

Niki- so glad to hear you had a good experience with them. I just faxed them the contract for Apartment #1 which is also on rue chapon. How did you like the street? Can you give me any pointers about that area. This will be my first time staying in that area (have always stayed at hotels, and usually in the 5th and 6th). So I don't really know the Marais other than to have walked around it. So all the usual questions - did you feel safe at night, where are good places to buy groceries, how long did it take you to walk to places - or did you metro everywhere? So many questions. You don't have a trip report floating around out there somewhere do you?

Isabel, yes I have a trip report. I tried to copy the link for you but I'm working on my daughter's laptop and it's a Mac and I can't figure out how to do it, there's no right clicking. Anyway, if you search on this forum for Chapon, it is currently the 18th post, entitled something like Febtuary vacation week in Paris, just back (long).

After you read it, if you have any questions just ask. But there is also a report from another poster, Seafox, who first stayed at the apartment I stayed at and then at the one you are considering, number 1. He was not happy with #1 for several reasons which he describes in his own post, which you can find also by searching for Chapon.

I have just returned from a fun and interesting night on the town in Paris with my daughter, and now it's time for bed. I will try to check back and see if you have any questions at some point while I'm still here, though.

There are many food shops on rue Rambuteau, a few blocks down from the apartment, near the Pompidou Center. And there is a large grocery store at Monoprix on rue Reaumur, also just a few blocks away. Walking to the Marais was easy, and maybe it was 15 minutes to Notre Dame.

Nikki - Hope you are having a great time in Paris. I can't wait - only 3 weeks left. I did find your trip report (actually several of them, they were all great) and it was helpful. I found Seafox's too, I think his only problem with apartment #1 was that it was smaller. There will be three of us, but we won't be inside all that much and it looks like it is still larger than the two small hotel rooms we were going to be in.

Is Alexander McWaid the person you corresponded with at rentparis.com before you went? He has been answering my emails promptly, but has not answered one of my main questions, so maybe you can. Do they give you more than one set of keys? We want to be able to go out seperately and meet back at the apartment so having two sets of keys (3 would be better, but two would do) is really important. Do you remember if you had an extra set of keys?

Also, they say the security deposit can be paid with a personal check. Did they really take a US Bank personal check?

Anything else you can think of?

I don't remember who I corresponded with before I got to Paris. Once I was there, I dealt with Fabrice. I believe we had two keys for the three of us who stayed in the apartment.

Seafox's issue with the apartment was partly that the bedroom is a loft and is accessible by a narrow spiral staircase, if I remember correctly.

Three years ago, rentparis did not require a security deposit. And I have read reports from others saying that they were not asked for it upon arrival. I have heard of other companies which will take a check in US dollars and return it to you when you leave if there is no damage, so maybe that it what rentparis will do also.

I can't think of anything else right now. Just checking messages after an afternoon of shopping in St. Germain and seeing the exhibit at the Musee du Luxembourg. Time to get ready, believe it or not, for a Fodor's get together at Le Train Bleu.
