Paris shopping?
 

Does anyone know where in Paris can I take my wife shopping and not go bust? :)

are there any mall like places there?

I my be staying in a hotel around the Louvre area (thanks to a replay from an earlier post :). How is the shopping around there :)

Ahhh shopping, something I DO know about~
The closest thing to a mall that I found in Paris was the Forum des Halles. I do not remember what shops were there, a cinema, etc, we were passing through.
There are wonderful department stores, Galleries Lafayette, Bon Marche, La Samaratain, Printemps.
In your area are some faaabulous stores, but be aware, the prices are quite high along the Rue de Rivoli, rue du Faubourg-St Honeore and in the beautiful Place des Victoires.
My advice would be the Galleries Lafayette by all means! it is a beautiful building, look UP! and the smaller boutiques on the Left Bank.
The Flea Markets on the weekend can be fun, but most are also not a bargain.
Across from the Louvre is one of the prettiest antique "malls" called the Antiquarius ( I think)..under the Louvre (Pyramid) is the Carrousel du Louvre.
No matter where you go in Paris, there will be ample shopping opportunities, Have a lovely time~

there is a huge shopping mall near the louvre. I believe it is called les halles.

Look for the Monoprix chain of stores, many locations...

There are two shopping areas I have not yet seen but would like to, maybe someone can describe them a bit..
1. Marché St Germain, 6th
2. Tour Montparnasse shopping mall, 14th

Subash: I wasn't impressed with the shopping at Montparnasse. Less selection, not as attractively presented.

As Scarlett and Travelnut mentioned, there are other, much better places to shop in Paris.

Marché St Germain has a nice food market, but the Marché is not worth travelling across Paris for.

If you don't mind a ride on the RER, there is a large outlet mall near disneyworld, La Vallee.

There are many shops along Blvd. Ste Germaine and on the side streets that have very good prices for the mdse they sell. Check out shopping in Le Marais for unusual items.

Try Pharmancy Fouhety on Rue du Four and Rue Bonapartee for cosmetics!

I wasn't sure what kind of shopping was offered at Marché St Germain; googling tells me 'boutiques', antique postcards, produce...

this is what I do with a little time to burn. As soon as you get there mosey around the really pricey shops to see what is hot. THEN go to the department stores and find the same stuff for less. Definitely take her to a fashion show - see my recommendations on that in the thread I just topped. Then she'll know just what whe want to take home to commemorate this special trip.

I second the Marais, it is a delight to get lost on the small streets leading here and there and finding unique shops with clothes etc that you will never find in an American Mall..sigh..take me with you?

The 1st and the 6th in my opinion are the best shopping areas. If your wife likes hip one of a kind boutique stores then the 1st and the 6th is where you want to be. Shops on Rue Honre(1st) are great and the Saint Germain (6th) has a ton of little boutiques with pricing varying from reasonable to expensive.

So is the Blvd St Germain-my favorite~

One of my favorite places to buy decent tablecloths is Les Olivades. I have several from there, and one is almost 4 years old and still looks fantastic! A huge plus is that they are machine wash and dry, so no special care is needed. They have a website your wife can checkout and see if it may be something she would like. It is www.les-olivades.com. They have several locations in Paris, 1 rue de Tournon, 95 due de Siene, and at the Galleries Lafayette.

Sorry...forgot to say that the first two locations are in the 6th.

In case you need to look up the street, it's actually the Rue St-Honoré. Lots of interesting boutiques there, as well as a branch of La Vesselairie, which has marvelous things for the kitchen and dining room at low prices.

go to the italie2 mall at place d'italie metro stop.They have a printemps or if your broke you can visit Tati downstairs.
