Paris Rm - Elevator Needed!

I will be traveling to Paris next month with a friend who uses a cane, so we need a charming hotel that has an elevator. Also, the less we need to use the Metro the better, due to the stairs. Am considering the Millesime -any other suggestions? Many thanks!

The Lutece on the Ille St Louis..they have an elevator that will just fit 2 people..the hotel is loaded with charm. They are at 65 rue St Louis en Ille..The Danube on rue Jacob on the Left Bank, they have an elevator a little larger and it stops at each floor and a half! It is also charming, and the staff is excellent.

I think all 3 star hotels and almost all 2 star hotels have elevators, so that shouldn't be a problem. I would strongly recommend you stay near a bus route in your case, some of the good value hotels around the Ecole Militaire metro stop in the 7th would be good and also some around the Luxembourg RER stop -- both of those are near many bus lines and the metro stops have escalators, I think. I really wouldn't think staying on that island would be a very good idea for someone who uses a cane as there is not even a metro stop on it and I don't think any bus line goes there, but I'm not sure of that.

I don't think that staying at a hotel near a metro station would help, even if it has escalators. The metro stations in Paris, most of them, even if some have escalators, they also have stairs, and sometimes having to change trains and lines ( what happens often) might be a nightmare even to those who don't use a can. So, as you said, I think you'd better skip the metro if you can (no pun intended). Think of busses and bus stops, instead, while choosing a convenient hotel location.

Knowing what are your plans, where you mean to go, and for how long are you staying, besides your budget, would help the contributors to suggest you a suitable hotel.

However, if you can get a room at the Millesime, it would be perfect. In your friend's circumstance, the hotel 's staff and concierge can be of great help, and in this regard, as well as facilities, the Millesime is outstanding in its category.

Have a great time in Paris.

Regards,

S

Sandy - The De Lutece suggested by C will work for you - an excellent elevator, and the landing have only one or two short steps to rooms. And a level, east street. I am going to make an assumption, and then a suggestion about daily transportation. I imagine you're planning exactly where you'll visit each day, given the need to help your friend. May I suggest you use a taxi each day ... it is not expensive, and you do see Paris. De Lutece is excellent about reserving taxis, and the taxis always arrive exactly on time. You can start and end each day with a taxi, and do the same for the eveing when you go out for dinner. And during the day, you can mix it up - taxi, bus, metro - depending on all the logistics that will affect your companion. Good trip, and enjoy that wonderful city. Ciao, Leone

I agree with the post about hotels around Ecole Militaire in the 7th--there are good 2* and 3*. But a main draw is that that area is served by about 5 different bus lines. You can get just about anywhere easily by bus.
Additionally there are numerous restaurants within a 10 minute (easy) walk.

The D'Aubusson hotel of the same "family" as Millesime has an elevator and is charming. The staff was the best anywhere.
