paris restaurants open on sunday
 

hi. we usually go to l'ardoise on sundays but was wondering if there are any other good places open. i know the cave de l'os a moelle is. also le dinee-has anyone eaten here? any other recommendations? i know zagats lists this but i dont have it. thanks

Get the Red Michelin Guide - there is one for Paris only. It shows the opening days, and even has a page listing all the recommended restaurants open on Sat & Sundays.

Os a Moelle is one of my favorites - kinda in a corner of Paris that's away from the major hotel areas (we stay in an apt close to there & usually walk to Os a Moelle). However, my Michelin guide says it's closed on Sunday.

Last June we dined at Gauloise on a Sunday & we enjoyed it. Friends went there also on our recommendation & liked it. It's on Ave Motte-Picquet in the 15th just across the border from the 7th.

We spend about 2 months in France every year - so that's about 30-40 restaurant meals there every year. I'm quite picky about restaurants. Ate at 2 one-star restaurants that I did not like at all. Thought Os a Moelle & Gauloise were better.

My daughter and I had a nice dinner at Le Vieux Bistro right next to Notre Dame. We attended Sunday evening mass at the cathedral, and walked across the street to dinner!

I'm sorry to say that the only bad meal we had in Paris was at Le Vieux Bistro--I will never forget the slimy leeks.

Virtually all the hotel restaurants will be open on Sunday, along with those in the Marais.

Bistro de Breteuil, in the 7th, is open on Sundays and very popular with some Fodor folks. I find that it is not as good as it was a few years ago.

Brasserie Lipp (Alsatian cuisine), on Blvd. St. Germain, in the 6th, is open every day, also. It can be a fun experience, if not gourmet food.

stu, the cave (across the st. for os moelle) is open on sunday. what type of food does la Gauloise serve? Ira, same question for La Mediteranee. Thanks. Not nuts about Fontaine de Mars. thanks

Bouillon Racine in St Germain is open on Sundays.

Gauloise serves French food - naturally. I had always shunned this restaurants on prior visits because of the name (a cigarette??) My wife & I were quite pleased with the variety of selections and the quality.

Louis Vins, 9 rue de la Montagne-Ste-Genevieve, 01.43.29.12.12, open everyday

Mon Vieil Ami, 69 Rue Saint Louis en l'Ile. (In the 4th, on Ile St-Louis) 01-40-46-01-35.

Both come highly recommended.

I have to add that I didn't think my dinner at Le Vieux Bistrot was that great also. I've read that their boeuf bourgignon is considered to be either the best or one of the best in Paris. It was just average to me. The two things I didn't like about this place is that the owner/waiter expected you to order a bottle of wine and they seated us in the 'foreign' section. I've learned later on that others were offered wines by the glass and were seated with locals in their back room.

How about Le Train Bleu? You'd get to see a glorious national monument at the same time. There is a Fodorites gathering there on Feb. 18.
