Hello, I am currently in Paris now and had an apartment at one time in the 7th. I like Thomieux on St. Dominique, but ownership has changed and the food also I've heard, but loved this place. Also, Le Florimond,19 Av Mott Picquet, tiny and you need a few hours to eat here to enjoy the courses. Also,Le Timbre which is in the 6th. You need reservations at all of these, but they are around 34E a person for your memorable meal and it is a feast.

Yes, Joan, I think the restaurant could be on fire and those two would stop to reapply their makeup.
The countess tells me that you have to know what to order at Le Clarisse because not everything on the menu works. She smokes, too, so her tastebuds are probably dead, the poor dear. She is here with me now. Keith and I had to rescue her from Manhattan because she couldn't get back to Paris because of the ash cloud. Thankfully, she is leaving tomorrow. My home smells like the lining of Heidi Fleiss's purse. You would think she would smoke outside on the porch, but she is French and finds that insulting. Thin |
Thomieux on St. Dominique
I got food poisoning there! |
Thin,
You have an extra special interest in the airlines gettting people taken care of!! It has been years since in Thoumieux..I was not impressed then. I do know that it has changed and now suppoed to be quite good. Avalon, when did you get food poisoning..since the change?? Joan |
I forgot about the little Italian restaurant on Champ du Mars..# 22, I think. La Taverna.I was there a couple time..lunch and dinner. The first time I was there it turned out that their credit card machine was not working..I often carry very little cash. She was not concerned..didn't even want my telephone number or address for my apt. I was only a block away and returned and paid her.I always go to Chez Pierrot on Amelie. I know it is touted by Rick Steves, but I never ran into crowds of Americans. I do try to make my reservations later..8:30 - 9:00.

"Le Rouge Vif went away several years ago; sorry."
Thanks for the heads up. This lead me to do a bit of internet searching with the happy discovery that Le Rouge Vif is re-locating to New York! |
Bookmarked...love it.

I have got to agree. These were great last May 2009
Les Cocottes Fables de la Fontaine Less expensive places we liked Flirt The 3 Av Duquesne, 1.5 blocks SE of the Ecole Millitaire metro Nice for light breakfast food. Fluorent the owner is great. Joan Grace, is he still there? Le Champ de Mars Braserie – Café 45 av de la Bourdonnais We had a nice lunch and a dinner there. Simple but nicely prepared and presented food Good service to polite Americans 8 to 15 Euros for lunch if I remember right Economical 1664 beer and red wine Have a good time James |
James,
Florent is still there. He is not open on Saturdays and he does take the holidays along with the ponts. Florent and Michael joined me at Violon d'Ingres for 'our' Thanksgiving dinner... we also went together to Au Gourmand(a favorite of mine) and Pasco's one night that turned out to be a most enjoyable meal. They were also with our mini GTG at Au Petite Sud Ouest. Have plans with them for November, too. Joan |
Hi Joan:
Glad to hear Florent is well and still doing business at his restaurant. The last time I saw him in May 2009 he asked me if I had enjoyed the oatmeal? I can't believe you talked him in to finding the oatmeal for you. It was kind of you to have remembered my post about breakfast options in the 7th. This made me think of our many backpacking trips in the Colorado wilderness. We had the same oatmeal for breakfast along with poor quality coffee. We never imagined then we would one day visit Paris and meet you and be given the same "backpacking" oatmeal as a gentle and kind joke. Au Revoir, James |
Hi James,
I remembered you saying you liked oatmeal. That is why I took some packages with me and I asked Florent if he would mind fixing it for you. I didn't have any while there. Do you have big travel plans ahead? Joan |
In the 7th I enjoyed L'Ami Jean. 27 brue Malar,
Gaya, 44 rue de Bac |
Boujour Joan:
It takes awhile to save up vacation time to spend 4 weeks in France and still take Fridays off now and then to go skiing. Barb and I will be in France in September 2010. Paris Sept 8 to 12 on our own Rick Steves Villages and Vinyards of France Sept 13 to 24 Cap Ferrat and Monaco - on our own Sept 25 to 26 Paris - on our own Sept 27 to 30 We had a great time in France last year and look forward to September. When will you return to Paris? Best regards, James |
I enjoy Fish in the 6th (rue de Seine) and Pasco in the 7th (74 Boulevard de La Tour Maubourg).
|
James and Barb,
I had to cancel the month of May due to some family health problems, but I am all set for the month of November. I am sure you will enjoy your Sept. trip. Joan |
ditto FISH---you can't go wrong!

Josephine “Chez Dumonet” (117 rue de Cherche-Midi). I would also second Le Petite Chaise, it's not fancy, but good traditional bistro fare and they claim to be the oldest continuously running restaurant in Paris back to 1680 or something like that.
|
I have dined at Le Petit Chaise. The salmon I had for my dinner was just OK, not great. I think a lot of tour groups dine there.
I was much more impressed with the nice shops near the restaurant. :) Thin |
