Hi Annie,
Moules et frites at Leon Bruxelles on Bld St Germaine ? 14E for the menu, with a Belgian waffle for dessert. Vesuvio, an Italian restaurant on Bld St Germaine across the street from St Germaine-des-Pres. Has a wood-burning pizza oven. Dinner was just like in Italy - about 20E pp with wine. Le Grille St Germaine, Rue Guisard corner of Rue Mabillon. A typical bistro with good food at low to moderate prices. Prix Fixe dinner about 16E. House white wine was a modest Chablis, 12E |
If you get the moules et frites with the Belgian waffle at Leon Bruxelles, you have the option for a few more euro to change the waffle to creme brulee. I did that and was amazed at how good the creme brulee was. Totally outstanding. I find out later that other people on this forum had recommended it and I certainly agree.
The mussels were also very good although the frites were not the best I had in Paris. All in all though a great meal. |
Bistro de la Gare on Blvd. Montparnasse a few doors west of Rue de Rennes. Beauiful mirrored interior, reasonable prices, good service, and basic food. My all time favorite in Paris. Grenouille (Frog) on Rue des Grands Augustins a few steps north of Rue St André des Arts. Enter through an arch and courtyard. This is an old hangout of medical students. Traditional French menu, good food, and a wonderful hole in the wall place to kick back. Utterly unique. |
Grandmere,
I love Allard too :-) I've never eaten anything but the roast chicken, but it's a huge serving and perfectly cooked, served with the most delicious mushrooms. Love the atmosphere, but best in the main dining room. Last time, we ate in the small room with the bar... it was a little crowded. Best, Sandy |
Next time at Allard, I'm trying the duck, which is prepared with tons of olives. I had salmon both times I was there! But the salad dressing (mache and beet salad) is what I'd love the recipe for!
