Paris Restaurant Reports
I will be frank - I am here for the food.
Sunday was our first day and after arriving we walked down to the Seine and stopped for lunch at Le Reminet - this palce is tiny but you aren't here for the space. We were seated next to a father and son from San Francisco and soon got to know them and their food choices - there was maybe 2 inches between their table and ours. Like Bilbo Baggins I had had second breakfast, one at 5:30 before landing in Heathrow and one between London and Paris. However in the interests of beating jet lag I wanted to get on schedule and talked Sandra into lunch at one o'clock. I had white asparagus, blanched lightly and sprinkled with slivered jambon, and all marinated in a light oil dressing. Served with a small mixte salad, it was meant to be an entree but I had it as my main. The waiter did raise his eyebrows but went along with my decision. It was amazing and ample, considering. Sandra had a mixte salad followed by Tandoori chicken brochette that rivaled the best we have had in authentic Indian restaurants in Toronto. Barely cooked, it was sweet with sufficient heat to make it alluring. I couldn't insult the chef by only having an entree, so I ordered dessert - creme brule. Ahhh. A hard crust gave way to a silky smooth custard cream that slid down your throat. Amazing and the best I have had. The portion was almost too large but i finished it all, carefully scraping the edges of the dish. Sandra had a coustillant made of strawberries and rhubarb, accompanied by a drizzle of berry coulis. Not overly sweet, it was a great seasonal choice. A glass of house wine made the meal memorable. This is a fantastic restaurant, medium priced. Tomorrow (Monday) Jules Verne. |
Wow, where IS this place?
After reading your sensuous descriptions, I had to fan myself, almost swooned with a case of the vapors. |
Hi,

robjame, you had me, hook, line and sinker, until you mentioned that your creme brule portion was too large. Who ever heard of a dessert portion TOO LARGE?!?!
Eagerly awaiting a description of the remainder of your meals... |
I had creme brulee there too, several years ago, and don't remember any problems finishing it.

I agree it is a great place to eat but I've never noticed that the wait staff would be anything but totally atuned to your wishes.
Perhaps the raised eyebrows were because of something you weren't wearing or wasn't quite closed????? |
