Paris restaurant recommendations - in the 1st arr.?
 

I've read that the 1st arrondissement is a bit of a tourist trap. Well, we decided to stay there anyway!

Does anyone have any restaurants in the first that they particularly enjoyed? (Or nearby - we'll be at the Tuileries metro.)I'd rather not spend more than 100 euro on dinner (plus drinks). But we'll consider other price ranges too!

Also we are willing to "travel" to dinner, but if the weather is bad and we had a "hard" day of seeing the sights, sometimes it's nice to just go around the corner!!)

these are all great and some good restos. Grand Vefour, my first special,
Espadon, in the Ritz that has the most beautiful dining terrace,
Pharamond is beautiful, never tasted the food,
Prunier a venerable seafood resto. I had my first sea urchins before the French Cote D'Azur.
The others IIhave missed and would like to go by what I have read, is "the dog who Smokes." (Chien qui fume) and chez Pauline.

For good food at reasonable prices, try L'Ardoise; it's on the Rue Mont-Thabor quite near another favorite of ours in the 1st, Le Soufflé. For breakfast and lunch, Le Pain Quotidien, on the Place du Marché St-Honoré, is always reliable; great breads.

Over in the 7th, you can't beat the Bistro de Breteuil: kir apéritif, 3 courses from an extensive menu, and a full bottle of wine for 2 people. The price? 31 euros per person. And in the 13th, our favorite is Au Petit Marguery. We just ate at both these restaurants last week and still talk about the meals.

L'Ardoise looks to be within a couple of blocks from your hotel.

Across the street from the east facade of the Louve, at Adm. Coligny Blvd. and Rivoli, is "Le Fumoir." Terrific food, and if I can afford it, with my wines... not too terribly expensive!

I haven't been there in a while, but I've always liked Lescure on rue Mondavi, about a block from Place de la Concorde. A kind of hole-in-the wall place, it gets crowded so I tend to go early. It's not haute cuisine, but it's reliable, tasty, and very reasonably priced.

What hotel have you chosen? Just curious, I like staying in the 1st myself.

Our favorite Cafe/bar in the area is Castiglione, just around the corner on St-Honore. A locals spot, you can eat at the bar, like local merchants do when in a hurry, sit upstairs or at the street tables when the weather is nice. The kitchen does a good job, including a burger, if you must. JP

I love the 1st arr and always stay there. Here are a few where we went to:
Nomad's = not far from St Honore and other great restaurants right around the corner from Nomad's ( ate in that area about 3 out of 5 nights.
Le Pouqelin - not far from HOtel du Louvre ( tiny place but food was awesome)
Angelina's - definite for lunch or breakfast

Where are you staying at?

Muscade, which is in the Palais Royale on the northwest side. It has outdoor seating under the arcade. We especially liked the desserts.

BLN, one restaurant we continue to enjoy in the 1st arrondissement is Macéo at 15, rue des Petits-Champs north of the Palais Royal. The food is quite good, and there is always an excellent vegetarian option. In addition, the tables are widely spaced, and the décor is lovely.

A more casual bistro-style wine bar with very tasty food is the related Willi's Wine Bar at 13 rue des Petits-Champs.

We've been to both a number of times and have always enjoyed our meals.

We're staying at Londres Saint Honore. Couldn't find much about it, but the price was right and seems okay. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Re the Palais Royale, we have had marvelous dinners at Armand. You can search on the board.
