Paris restaurant I once visited -- where is it?
In 1985, my husband and I had dinner at a restaurant in Paris that was close to the jazz bars, very reasonably priced. We haven't been able to locate in since, having forgot the name and exact location. Maybe you can help. I recall there was a prix fixe, and that it had a main floor, but downstairs there was a rather large "cellar" restaurant area. Does that ring a bell to anyone?

Good Lord this could describe thousands of places in Paris....
|
Could you be a little more vague, please? Seriously, which jazz bars? What area of Paris?
|
1985?

good luck!

troll?
|
Was it near a place with a red awning? or did it have a menu posted near the front door?
|
Could be Lairbuci, at Rue de Buci?
|
If you forgot the name, how will you know when you've been given the right answer?

I will take one stab--Nos Ancestres Gauloises (or something like that). Did you eat at long tables downstairs? All you can eat entrees, wine? On l'Ile de St. Louis?
|
Sorry, I meant L'Arbuci:

http://www.arbuci.com/anglais/default.htm

LArbuci " Le jazz coule à flots ! "
As a living symbol of Saint Germain-des-Pres era, LAburci swings and rocks. Jazz music for the mood and fine meals to enjoy in delightful company.
Typical terrace on the street or ground level tables to enjoy
thoousands of meats grilled on the spit : sirloin, lamb saddle,
pork ribs, or else seafood platters in all freshness and accompanied by good little wines
The basement echoes of a thousand soul, funk, jazzy tunes
which will make you swirl and turn while enjoying a fruity
cocktail..

I know the place you're talking about!

When you walk out of the museum, look for an old building, turn left and walk three blocks and it's right there.
|
Sorry V, but you are so wrong! If you turn left you will never find it. It is to the right after the old building and then three blocks. Once there look for a lot of tables and chairs out on the sidewalk and waiters in white aprons.

I know this question has everyone going, and I kind of feel like that everytime we go to Paris -- wasn't it down this street in that old building?!

But seriously, my recollection is that it was located in the 6th, St. Germaine de Pres Metro, or maybe even Metro St. Michel. It was dark downstairs, and the tables were placed together in a row, but could be separated. Traditional brasserie/bistro food. Found it in "Time Out". The jazz bar (there were a number of tiny ones in the area) was a funky old place with a Key West kind of feel, well-used white rattan furniture on the main level and I believe it had a white piano.

Sorry, I'm just giving this a shot; thought someone might have a clue.

I guess you've tried www.timeout.com
|
Nicky, wonder if you could find the 1985 or 1984 version of Timeout in your local library? It would be worth a shot. Sorry I can't help you further than that. : )
