Paris restaurant discovery - Great Food/Fast/Reasonable/Ambiance/6th
 

I've been over in the 6th for the last week and have stayed here MANY times. I love the area but have found the resto options rather limited. But I just stumbled across a REALLY nice litte restaurant called La Bastide d'Opio at 9,rue Guisarde 75006 Paris Tel 01 43 29 01 84 open every day - www.bistrot-opio.com. And they're doing SOOOO many things right that they deserve some BIG credit.

For one thing it's open on Sunday - I got there about 2pm. And the waiters are actually friendly. And there is actually space between the tables. They have a large upstair seating and smaller down. I ordered the salmon in an herb crust with ratatouille and a salad for only 18 euros - and was so impressed that I also ordered the moelleux au chocolat - and a coffee and it totalled 27 euros.

Moelleux au chocolat is one of my absolute FAVORITE desserts in France. It's a tiny little round chocolate cake served warm with creme anglais. When you cut in to the cake - out oozes some of the richest MOST delicious chocolate sauce EVER. It's a LOT of chocolate deliciousness without all the volume.

My salmon was PERFECTLY cooked - I always order it rare - and it was served atop a perfectly fine ratatouille. And the salad was JUST right with the RIGHT amount of dressing - getting rare these days- and well seasoned.

I could tell that lots of other diners were happy with their food, too. And the ONLY thing I had to wait more than 5 minutes for was the check - but I'm cutting them slack for that - it was crowded.

I cant remember where Rue Guisarde is located. How far the restaurant is from Saint Germain Church or St.Germain metro? We will be staying as usual at Hotel Bonaparte.

Turn left out of hotel, left at corner and left again and it's back in that area.

For some reason, I think the OP's restaurant is a 'sister' to La Boussole in the 6th.. ? Ah, look at the reference at the foot of the webpage...

Travelnut, I didn't know the connection but when I first read the OP, I was going to respond by saying how much I liked La Boussole which I think is just one strret over. I thought it was very good value and fun. So, now plan to try La Bastide d'Opio as well.

Sounds lovely, we are looking for a place to eat on Sunday, May 1st. Do you think either La Boussole and/or La Bastide d'Opio will be open?

We are staying in the 4th, but these both look so nice and your glowing recommendations make them even more appealing. I am assuming both will be easy for us to get to from the 4th??

Yes, Ira. There are TONS of restaurants in this area. High-quality restaurants are what is limited.

Nice atmo, clean, prompt and friendly service, tasty, well-seasoned, well-prepared food that tastes at least as good as I can make it myself, plus a fair price for what I get. Oh, and preferably nice lighting, low kitchen noise, and no clamor. :)

Dear Travelers.

The other day I went to La Boussole at 12 rue Guisarde 75006 - 01 56 24 82 20 - la-boussole.com for a late lunch. The place was PACKED. I almost left, but decided to give it a chance.

After about a 10 minute wait, I placed my order and promptly got drinks and then within 8 minutes got my entree of escargots.

As soon as I finished those I got my absolutely delicious plat of salmon with tons of delicious veggies and a sort of teriyaki glaze.

This place has a heavy Asian influence - and everything I had there was pretty good considering the low price of 20 euros or so.

I was AMAZED they were able to wait on me so promptly as full as they were.

I personally prefer La Bastide d'opio because of the REALLY friendly service and smaller feel - more space between tables, and less noise.

Glad you had an overall good experience at La Boussole. My advice for dinner is to be there when it opens. I think the set price for three courses, lots of choices, was 25 € at night.

This may seem like a silly question, but just how necessary are dinner reservations? If we are there early, at the start of dinner hours, will we be able to get a table for 2?

We are used to eating dinner at 18:00, so it won't be a problem to eat at beginning of dinner hours [ actually, it will be hard for us to wait that late, LOL]

Are reservations needed for lunch as well?

We will be there for 8 days, starting 29 April.

Web site takes reservations, I have a feeling they don't open for dinner until 7:30, was having trouble clicking through the site so can't confirm that.

It's in a grid of pedestrian streets off Place St. Sulpice, lots of moderate to medium choices. Cute creperie on Rue des Cannettes may open earlier. Also noticied a pizza place.

Just off the place as you walk down Rue des Cannettes is an Italian restaurant on the left which I thought was really bad, wish I had noted the name--old celebrity photos from the 70s on the wall.
