hi mindforms,
we stayed at the Britannique for a few nights a couple of years ago and we loved it - a great position.
not in the class of le train bleu but still very nice, diagonally across the road from the hotel is the classic brasserie, le zimmer. Here's the website:

it's open constantly from 8am to after midnight so if you find yourselves in need of a meal at an odd time, this is your place! we were very tired when we arrived and didn't want to go far, so this was perfect.
we also ate at the restaurant of the Georges V - le cinq. it's walkable [just] from the hotel, or get metro line no 1 just across from the hotel to the Georges V stop.
they do a three course lunch every day including sunday for about €85 - in fact it's more like 6 courses, and you won't want to eat again that day! if you stay off the champagne [€30 per glass] but order a bottle of the house wine at €50, you can even kid yourselves that you've had a bargain, and for the level of cooking, you definitely have. They presently have 2 michelin stars, and what they have to do to get a third I can't possibly imagine. really wonderful for a splurge. [you must book].

They just received their first (well deserved) Michelin star in March. Lunch is a great bargain starting at 38 euros but dinner prices aren't bad either considering the quality of the food. It is for the most part a no choice menu except for the main course although you're both required to take the same (fish, poultry or meat).
I think the lunch prix fixe at Le Cinq is 95 now. It's technically 3 courses (entree/plat/dessert) but also comes with pre-amuse, amuse, pre-dessert and mignardises. There are 2 choices per course but don't hesitate to ask for a substitution if you don't find anything to your liking. I do think the food itself is better at Kei but the setting and service at Le Cinq makes it nice for a special occasion.

Your hotel is in a great location. I would say, absolutely without wanting to induce any paranoia, that Line 1 of the Metro, especially between Chatelet and the Gare de Lyon, where Train Bleu is located, is sort of the Pickpocket Express of Paris. Thousands take it daily without problems, but you should be aware of the issue and DO NOT stand near the doors for fear you will miss your stop. You won't miss your stop, and most pickpockets hit their marks near the door, then pop out into the stations themselves at the last second. If you are in the middle of the car, you can pick the door with the least crowding and exit that way. Again, your chances of being pickpocketed are minimal, even minuscule, but if one had to predict where it might happen, that end of Line 1 would be a good guess.

Good advice about not standing near the door, Ackislander.
However, I would caution that the areas around the most popular tourist sites and the stations that serve them are just as high a risk.
Don't be paranoid, just be aware of your surroundings.

Patty - thanks for the update on the price of lunch at le cinq. I note that they don't advertise it on the website!
I still think that it's worth it for once in your life to experience that sort of food, service and ambiance for not much more than the price of two decent meals that you might forget a year later.
