Paris Residence Henri IV hotel?

I am planning my 6th trip to Paris for April 2013. part of the fun is researching hotels. We will probably stay at 2 different hotels this trip. I am looking at Secrets de Paris but it is coming up too expensive; perhaps it will come down. Meanwhile I'd like to book a hotel for the first couple days. I like the REsidence Henri IV which is slightly less than $500 for 2 nights, twin room. Has anyone stayed here and what was your experience?
Hotels.com will let me book it without pre paying and without penalties so really no risk. Is it too soon to do this for an April trip?
I am looking for a little bit of Parisian charm around the $200-250 range. If anyone has any very charming options, i would be happy to check them out. This trip is for my 60th birthday and I just want to wander and enjoy being in Paris. A girl friend is coming along so a room with twin beds is a must. I like the Best Western Premier Au Manoir but it doesn't offer twin beds.

Hi V,

No. Book it now. You have months to decide if you wish to go elsewhere.

One small heads-up: There is also a Hotel Henri IV, smaller and more modest, hidden in a little plaza between the two arms of the Pont Neuf. You can see it here http://www.henri4hotel.fr/home.html

We have stayed at Residence Henri IV about 5 years ago and absolutely loved it. Great location, rooms and service. Everything we could have wanted. We have chosen other hotels since then for other visits so that we can enjoy the different areas of Paris. Last year we stayed at the Hotel de Pantheon and can highly recommend it if you would like to be nearer to the Luxembourg Gardens.

Hi Vicky. My daughter and I stayed at this hotel last month. We had a standard twin room. It rates very highly on all accommodation sites. We enjoyed it but can't really compare it with any other hotels in Paris. It's location is good - about a 5 minute walk from Notre Dame and also close to Pantheon and Maubert Mutualite metro stop. Eric Kayser has a shop nearby and it's full of yummy pastries and cakes! Our room was very comfortable, clean and well maintained and the bathroom was fine. The small kitchen facility in the room was really handy. The lift is very small so we were glad our room was only up one flight of stairs. We didn't have breakfast in the hotel but at €8 its apparently good value. It's a nice quiet area - other Latin Quarter hotels are possibly too close to the "action". When I booked I asked for a room with a balcony but not sure you can get this with a standard room. Our room had full length double windows but no "balcony".

What street is Eric Kayser on? It is on my list to try.

Rue Monge. A very short walk from this hotel and the reception guys will point you in the right direction.

You don't want to stay in that Henri IV hotel on the island, it is about the lowest level that exists in Paris (1* or maybe not even rated). Its rates are actually rather expensive for its level IMO. And they don't do email.

Vicky, I presume you are looking at the hotel on rue des bernardins....that's the one we stayed at and can recommend.

I am looking at REsidence Henri IV - very nice - not the other one

Just to help out, lol, there is also Hotel Henri IV Rive Gauche (9 Rue Saint-Jacques) so don't get it confused with 'Residence'...

I've stayed at this hotel a couple of times, I really love it. Small enough that when I'd return, the desk staff would tell me my husband called, without looking at messages. They have internet access in the tiny sitting room. It's cozy, but the bath is a good size, a big window, and the little kitchenette is so nice for a yogurt, or to have cheese in the fridge, etc.
Also stayed at the Hotel de Pantheon, cute but prefer Hotel Residence Henri IV. I think the nearby restaurant that I love is Fetes Galantes. It's tiny, affordable, delicious. You must have a reservation.
