Paris: RER B from CDG into town, which station/stop?
 

I'm just jotting down some notes for my trip and I can't remember how to get into town from CDG. I know we will take the RER B but which station do we get off at if we want to end up at the station Sully Morland? I see options of Gare du Nord, Châtelet les Halles, St Michel/Nôtre Dame, Luxembourg, Port Royal, Denfert-Rochereau, Cité Universitaire?

Can one of you paris experts give me a quick refresher so I write it in my itinerary?

it has a very user-friendly journey planner. You can just plug in the stations, and it'll tell you how to get from A to B. Handy for any other trips you may have to take while you're in Paris.

The only direct change from RER B to Metro line 7 for Sully Morland is at Chatelet-les-Halles, a huge interchange which can be a bit overwhelming.

I believe there's a bus which takes you to Opéra, where you can get on Metro line 7, but it's a long time since I used Charles de Gaulle.

Be prepared to spend a few hours, if not a few days, navigating through the Chatelet station.

Are you staying on Ile St Louis? If so and you are packing light you can likely walk easily enough from St Michel/Nôtre Dame.

A cab from Gare du Nord to Ile St Louis would be about 12 euros if I recall correctly from last year.

Actually I just looked at the map, looks like Pont Marie makes more sense, it's closer. If we're feeling spirited we may walk from St. Michel, how many blocks is that? We only have 1 rolling carryon each so that's not a problem.

Giulia, where is your destination (what street?) as this may make a difference. I agree wholeheartedly with avoiding transfer at Chatelet Les Halles. Another option would be to transfer at Gare du Nord to line 5 (Direction Place d'Italie) and ride to the Bastille or Quai de la Rapee station, walk from there.
IF you are up for it, you could also take the Air France bus from CDG to Gare de Lyon and walk or taxi from there.

OK, with that info - stay on RER B to St Michel. From there walk along the river to Pont de la Tournelle, which you will cross to the Ile.

Follow the directions given by Seamus. According to viamichelin.com it's a 0.8km walk and should take you about 12 minutes.

Yes, that will certainly work, although Google says it's 1.0km. Go to maps.google.com, and paste <b>rer saint michel notre dame paris to 4 quai d'orleans paris</b> into the blank. You will see a map and directions.

If you prefer walking half as far, exit St Michel-Notre Dame station and walk across the river to the south side of Quai de Gesvres. Turn right (east) and go about 100 feet. Paste this into maps.google.com <b>48.856866,2.34825</b> and zoom in to see a N&deg;67 bus waiting at the stop. This bus will take you from there to the &Icirc;le St. Louis stop on Rue des Deux Ponts, around the corner from your hotel.

Seamus, when you said in your post above to "stay on RER B to St Michel" are you saying that we can go direct from CDG without transferring at Les Halles? Or am I misunderstanding? I want to get off at St Michel.

The RER B usually goes right through Paris, but there may be some trains whose last stop is Gare du Nord. Look at the board on the platform, the lighted stops are the ones that are valid for that train.

look at a map of the line, you can see it goes through the city and both St Michel and Les Halles are stops on it, as are many others.

That's correct - there's a direct RER train from CDG to St. Michael. Bring Euro coins if you have them to avoid RER ticket line. The ticket machines do not accept American credit cards and the manned train ticket window at CDG is always a zoo (and about a 20 minute wait).

That's great, I'd rather walk the little bit extra to avoid Les Halles. Is there a place to recharge our NaviGo passes at the CDG station? Does the pass work for the RER?
