Paris - Recommendations within Neighborhood
 

We will be staying in an apartment at the corner of Rue de Lille and Rue de Beaune in May. Does anyone know of any particular cafes, shops, bakeries, etc. in that immediate area (within a few block)?

I enjoyed Bistrot de Paris on rue de Lille, which is within spitting distance of your apartment. My receipts tell me that I spent 56 Euros on dinner, consisting of an entree, plat, dessert and a qt. of wine. It was one of those happy meals where the food was great and the waiter a lot of fun. I also dropped into Le Pont Royal for an impromptu lunch one afternoon. A tiny bar a bieres located on rue de Bac, at either the corner of rue de Lille or rue de Verneuil. I was the only non-French person in there and paid 13.80 Euros for steak grille with delicious frites and a double espresso. Cinq Mars at 51 rue de Verneuil was also a charming small restaurant and seemed to be much in demand with the locals. Dinner there came to 37 Euros for a glass of wine, plat and dessert. By far, my favorite cafe was Cafe Bonaparte across from Eglise St. Germain des Pres. Great for people watching and only about a 5-7 minute stroll from your apartment. Enjoy! I love that neighborhood.

Mind you, I didn't say Le Pont Royal was one of Paris's better dining experiences, but the frites were good and I was hungry!

Walk around in the vicinity of rue Jacob/rue St. Benoit/rue de Buci/blvd. St. Germain and you'll find many restaurants. Rue de Buci is a market street, and there is also a boulangerie, fromagerie, a charcuterie and a small grocery store on the street.

Don't forget Bon Marche and the Epicerie at Sevres-Babylone, and there's a large Monoprix corner of rue de Rennes/blvd St Germain.... oh, and there's this great little museum called the d'Orsay... :)

I can recommend Bistro de L'Universite (on Universite, just off rue du Bac if memory serves), as well as Le Frigate, which is also off Bac, closer to the Seine. We've enjoyed wonderful lunches in the former, and I understand that the latter (which doesn't look like anything special from the street), is a great eatery, although we haven't dined there yet. This is a great apartment location and puts you in walking distance of so many wonderful sights. Enjoy! EJ ((#))

There is a great cafe at Beaune/University that makes it's own pastries, cakes etc. Cafe Esperance is super cheap as well, at least relative to other spots in this pricey area. Friendly people too.

Here is an interactive map I have put together. As you see, finding restaurants is not the problem! Now I am so happy to have some first-hand advice.

Over in the 1st eme, you might want to check out Souffle (3 course souffle prix-fixe), Rubis (great wine bar) & L'Castiglione (high-end cafe with really good food). And if you go to Chez Flottes, consider the Aligote side dish, or order the Confit Canard where it is included.

Your apartment is on top of Bistrot de Paris. What a location! The scent of poulet fermier roti would keep my mouth watering day and night! I'm so jealous!

And your method of organizing makes me look forward to your trip report when you come back :-)
