Paris - really cheap sleeping...
While daydreaming on a site about international living, a letter in its forum was written about a unique opportunity to sleep in a facility in/near/at Sacre Coure
(sp?) called the Ephrem. It is run by the nuns. Evidently it is $12 a night (shower in your room but w.c. down the hall...) Anyway, its a great little read "internationalliving.com " the article is entitled "Delightfully Gothic"... (I can't seem to link it here...) Anyone ever stay here? |
I don't really care for that company, myself, having gotten on their mailing list once without asking and they inundated me with spam. I thought it was mainly to sell things and for people with a lot of money to invest in real estate abroad. It took a while to get off their list, but it annoyed me as someone gave them my name without my permission (Paris Insites).
Anyway, their web site doesn't turn anything up on that in a search. What does it say about this place? Because there is a church, St Emphrem, up there and they do have some dorm facilities for Catholics on pilgrimage or retreat or something, but it isn't open to the general tourist public for cheap rooms, from what I read on the church's web site. |
I think I might have found contact information for the Ephrem guesthouse:

I enjoy the site well enough when I want to pretend that I'm in a position to buy a home out of the USA.. you know, just a small pied a'terre (for example, I was daydreaming because I won a wee-bit on Power Ball last night...yowzah... not enough to buy anything but maybe lunch at a Michelin star restaurant next month...)
I think I'll spend it Thanksgiving day! and boy-o-boy am I ever thankful! |
I poked around a little more and found this page also:
http://www.sacre-coeur-montmartre.co...bergement.html It looks like the guesthouse has a curfew of 9 PM, if I understand correctly. I have sent them an email about costs and availability, so perhaps I will get some more information. |
Here is an excerpt from an email I received from the Ephrem guesthouse:
Our guesthouse is a Roman Catholic guesthouse where people come for a time of recollection, retreat or pilgrimage for 2 or 3 days. People who come to stay here come to pray, and to take part in the night time prayer in the Basilica (adoration of the Blessed Sacrement.) They can come on a full board or half board basis (minimum half board, that is to say dinner, bed and breakfast), and are invited to take part in the offices at the Basilica if they wish. The participation for a stay here is as follows: Bedroom (twin or double with private shower, wash basin, sheets and towels) 10 Euros per person per night (13 Euros for a single room) Diner 10 Euros per person Breakfast 4 Euros per person Lunch 10 Euros per person ======================== There is a little bit more information and they also sent a Word document. Clearly this guesthouse is meant for Catholics. I suppose interested observers might be okay, but I'm not sure how comfortable we would feel. It would be a good place to settle in for a bit and experience Sacré Coeur. |
