Paris question.
 

Hello everyone!!!<BR>I have searched this forum about accomondation in paris and I can see that most of you prefer the 5th,6th and 7th districts.I would like your opinion about stayin in the area of Grand Boulevards,somewhere near opera garnier or galleries lafayette.(We will be there in early july and my wife loves shopping!).Any suggestions for hotels in the area??

Sakis, it's really a very personal matter about where someone likes to stay. Personally, I am always staying in the 14th, the Montparnasse area. I find it convenient, safe and lively.<BR><BR>Now, for the Right Bank, I suggest you have a look a the Hotel Therese, on Rue Therese. It's off Avenue de l'Opera, next to Pyramides metro stop. Newly refurbished, quiet, charming 3* hotel, that I've visited upon my last stay in December. You can easily walk to the Opera and the department stores Galeries Lafayette and Printemps.<BR>A friend of mine just came back and absolutely loved the hotel and its location (very quiet!)..<BR>Not knowing about your budget, it's hard to make a good suggestion though.<BR>www.hoteltherese.com<BR><BR>Another charming, less expensive hotel in a quiet location near the Tuileries metro stop has been mentioned yesterday.<BR>Hotel du Lion d'Or*. <BR>Just think of this one: Hotel Mansart***, Rue des Capucines.<BR>I think, it's a little cheaper than the Therese.<BR>If you put 'Mansart' into the search box, you will get a couple of favourable comments on it.

Try the ***Hotel Ascot Opera.

Hello,<BR>We are staying in a hotel between the Opera and Madeleine - Hotel Folkestone Opera. We haven't stayed there before, so I can't give you a first-hand opinion. However I have spoken with a man who stays there on his Paris trip and just got back about 6 weeks ago. He says it is better than ever with some close places to eat. (However, he didn't give me any names!) It is fairly expensive (by my standards) at 137 Euros (including buffet breakfast) and is our &quot;splurge&quot; on this trip.<BR>Best wishes!

We have stayed at the Folkstone hotel and it was not a good experience for us. We made our reservation through Best Western and repeated asked for written confirmation from the hotel which they refused to give us. This should have been a warrning to us but as this had never happened to us before, we were not totally aware of the significance.<BR><BR>Fortunately we arrived early in the day and the only room they had for us was a single. It was the smallest room that we have ever stayed in and the smallest bed that we have ever slept in. We later found another hotel for the rest of our time there.<BR><BR>Be sure to get a written confirmation from this hotel (or any hotel).

Thanks for the heads up. I have exchanged email with them but have not asked for a written reservation confirmation. I do have one from Orbitz. Do you think that would be sufficient? <BR>I think I'll email them again tonight!!
