Paris plus where?

Honeymoon for 30 year olds. Bride has been to Europe 5 times, groom has never been so he gets to choose. He would like to see Paris and then someplace relaxing, beautiful, charming, not frenetic. Beach would be a plus. Mid-Sept, 9-10 days. Anybody have suggestions on what to pair with Paris? Train or rental car? Open jaw tix OK.

I think literally an place can be relaxing if you don't pack your schedule, it isn't the place, it is the person and their itinerary. I can be totally relaxed in Paris if I don't have any agenda and just go and hang out. But if the idea of relaxing is to go to a place where there isn't really anything much to do, that could be about any place out in the country or a small town.

I guess if they want a beach for some reason, you might as well do it within some reasonable distance of Paris, otherwise it doesn't really make any sense at all to combine them, you could just go to a beach back home as well (or in Mexico, etc.). And if it is September, the summer crowds should be thinning a lot on the Riviera, for example, or west coast beaches, anywhere, really. So maybe some beach in SW France or Spain.

I will say if it weren't for the beach obsession, I would have just recommended a stay in a more rural area, like Provence.

Il de Re with a really charming little town and nice beaches. Quiet. Sunny. Lots of good food.

I like Paris and Venice together (there's sort of a "beach" at the Lido -lol!)

How about St-Jean-de-Luz? Very cute town with great beach, on the west coast near the border of Spain. About 5.5 hours on the TGV.

Venice and Paris would be 2 supremely romantic destinations. But I wouldn't stay at the Lido, rather somewhere in Venice proper but away from the midday daytripper crush in the Piazza San Marco/Rialto area. Staying in a city of canals with no cars/trucks/vespas is very relaxing.

I would go to the French Riviera. You can take the train from Paris to Nice in 5.5 hours, base in Nice, and explore the coast from Cannes to Monaco.
