We're looking at this site. Does anyone had good or bad to say about this? It includes metro pass zones 1-3, although we intend to go to Versailles one day, and need to get to and from CDG to Ile St. Louis. We're first time visitors to Paris.

Most people will do better with the Paris Museum Pass, which also covers Versailles and just buying carnets of metro tickets or the Navigo weekly pass, if its Sun-Sat (i believe) arbitrary period comports to your plans and buying the CDG and Versailles tickets separately. Many find airport buses from CDG more convenient as well.

You will rarely be going beyond metro zone 1 - the city of Paris.

Here is what I would do.

RER ticket from airport to St Michel (direct line) is €8,50, You can buy two tickets, second for return. RER is the fastes way into town, and the walk from St Michel is not far from Ile St Louis, and probably one of the most scenic in all of Paris.

If you are visiting the "main" sites, the Metro/Bus will be fine. Walking is also a prime way of seeing the city. I, myself, buy a carnet of tickets. A carnet is just a fancy way of saying a block of ten tickets for the Metro/Buses. It costs €11,60. On my wandering I might use one to four a day, depending on whether I walk somewhere then Metro back before dinner, or eat dinner wherever I am,etc.. From Ile St Louis, you are very central, and if walkers, could access a lot of the sites. I've stayed there, you will like it.

If you are doing musuems a lot, look at the Museum pass. There are threads here that go through how to decide if it is financially wrothwhile, and talk of the convenience of the pass

For Versailles, I have done the bus tour, and on my own via the RER line 'C' train (same as idea as airport, but different line). I did a quick check, it seems the cost is also €8,50 one way (Zone1-4). It is not a long walk from Versailles Rive Gauche station to the Chateau.

The www.ratp.com site is VERY useful.

I don't know why you'd buy that but it would be difficult to figure out the price of all the things on it. It might be a deal if you really want all those expensive things, but it wouldn't make any sense if you only want a museum pass and metro tickets. It ha a lot of very expensive things on it, like Les Cars Rouges and some winetasting thing. If you want those, it might make sense but you'd have to compare the price of all those regularly.

Since you are focusing on it for the metro pass (I guess), don't buy it, that isn't a reason to buy some expensive package like that. It includes a tourist transportation pass called the Paris Visite which is usually more expensive than buying regular tickets and wouldn't cover Versailles or CDG anyway.

yes we are walkers. Actually 3 of us, myself, fiancee and 21 year old son. Our apartment is on the 4th floor, no elevator.
Definitely doing a day or two at Louvre. And as much museums as we can handle, and opera house. We will have one piece of luggage a piece(with wheels), plus small laptop, but I like the idea of direct to St Michel. If the walk is ok, with luggage. We should arrive CDG 9am.

I don't see any reason to buy that pass if all you want is to see a bunch of museums and use the métro. Just buy a carnet of tickets and a museum pass for as many consecutive days as you plan to be visiting museums.

A do-able walk from Louvre to your place. Everybody knows of the Louvre, don't forget the smaller museums. The Louvre cna be overhwleming.

For example, the Musee de la Moyen Age (aka Cluny, Middle Ages artifacts)is near you, and is interesting for its contents (tapestry, gargoyles from Notre Dame, etc) and its building (convent built over ruins of roman baths).

I have been to Paris twice, with the first time using the Paris pass. I thought the pass was a waste, because I like to take things in a relaxing manor, and didn't feel like working to a set Itinery and as a result it did not save me money. If your pushed for time and have a set Itinery, then it may be good for you.
As a matter of interest, the train Versailles is 3 euro each way.
a Mobilis ticket gives you zones one and two for a day on the subway for $5.90 , that what I used.

so, I think we will pass on the Paris pass, and take the RER to St Michel. We have 5 days in Paris, but it's Thursday thru Monday. Odd that the Navigo isn't just for any consecutive days.
