Paris Parks: Parc Belleville vs Parc des Buttes-Chaumont

I'm trying to get a feel for how different these parks may be in terms of terrain, views, sights, etc.

Thanks.

Both of them are very steep in places. Buttes Chaumont is vastly bigger and has a big lake.

There is a spot at the top of Belleville for a lookout, I don't know if there is at Chaumont. It has a terrace and a small museum up there about air (Maison de l'Air). I didn't go in it (Yelp says it's close anyway), but there is a terrace and area around it that is for viewing

Both are really nice, but if I could go to only one,it would probably be Buttes Chaumont. Just my opinion.

Thanks for the replies.

I think Buttes Chaumont fits a lot smoother into our path to walking along the Canal St Martin.

There has been an ongoing extensive renovation project in the Parc des Buttes Chaumont. It's now in its final phase that began in January and will not be completed until early 2016. At the bottom of this page on the 19th Arrondissement site you can download a map and a calendar of the works scheduled.

Not sure whether what's going on would significantly interfere with enjoying the park. Maybe one of our Parisian Fodorites is familiar with the situation and will weigh in.

If you have Netflix, there's a French film named, Nights with Theodore. The nights take place in Buttes Chaumont

MaineGG,
Thanks for the heads-up.

I checked out the construction map and it appears the work done to the central part of the park (in the area of the island) was done in 2013 & 2014.

The roadway that would be of most interest to us since that's the direction we'd go upon exiting the park is to the north-west and scheduled for the first half of 2015.

We'll be in Paris in early September so I'd guess that part would be completed. And if not we'd exit a bit further to the east.

Thanks again. I'll check out the construction as we get closer.

As you suggested. Maybe some of the Parisians could chime in.
