Paris - Organ Concerts
I'm getting ready for a short Paris trip and have came across comments about 'free' organ concerts at Notre Dame Cathedral. Does anyone have more info on this or perhaps other free classical music venues?
Also, do you guys know if the Sainte Chapelle is free on 1st Sunday? I didn't see this stated on its website, but came across some blog entrees by other visitors who mentioned it. Thanks |
Many churches in Paris have free classical music venues. Here are some of them (unfortunately in French): http://www.parisinfo.com/paris-a-pet...ns-les-eglises. To find out more details when you are here, you can buy L'Official, which lists all the musical and other cultural venues and shows in Paris each week.

If you like organs, Charles Vidor was organist at St Sulpice which still has one of the finest organs in the world, and I believe there are concerts after the principal mass on Sundays. A much better reason than Dan Brown to go there. Olivier Messaien was organist at St Trinite in the 9th from 1931 until his death, and Faure was organist at La Madeleine.

We attended the St. Sulpice concert after Sunday mass. It is an amazing organ and well worth it.

There are free concerts at the Madeleine church on some Sunday afternoons. More info:
http://www.concerts-lamadeleine.com/...action=accueil There are also occasional concerts at St.-Sulpice. http://www.stsulpice.com/Docs/concerts.html The grand organ at Notre Dame is under restoration and will not be heard again until December 2012. http://www.liturgiecatholique.fr/Res...-orgue-de.html |
