I say GO.

I never found the Parisians to be snobby, just reserved, indifferent and aloof at times. There is at times a facade you need to crack a little to get them to open up.

Whether or not you should go there is an unanswerable question.
Why does one need to go anywhere unless the welfare of your family, your job and professional future depend on it??!!
I don't go places in Europe because I need to; none of them relate to my job or put food on my table. In fact, going there is expensive. My income does not at all NEED for me to go there.
I sacrifice elsewhere in order to do it.

I visited Paris because I wanted to.
But never was there a need per se. There is a terrific difference.
If you don't have a real reason for wanting to go there, my advice is to go somewhere else!
My troll detector is buzzing.

ira Mar 6th, 2003 04:38 AM

Troll or not;
In April 2000, my wife and I were pleasantly surprised to find that not only were the Parisians we met not unfriendly, they were positively helpful.

Nikki Mar 6th, 2003 04:38 AM

nikecool should go to the Louvre to see why Nike (the winged victory) is cool.

Statia Mar 6th, 2003 04:56 AM

My experience was just like Ira's....even after all our friends told us how "snobby" the Parisians are. I think that it honestly all depends on how "we" approach travel situations in foreign lands, as to how we will be reacted to. Rudeness begets rudeness.

They never have been. Troll alert.

grandmere Mar 6th, 2003 05:06 AM

Elaine and Gretchen, I'm with ya!

ronkala Mar 6th, 2003 05:10 AM

It's not a case of "should you" but IF you want to. I have been to Paris twice and never had any unpleasant experiences. I was offered a seat on the metro so I could sit next to my wife, an open camera case was pointed out to friend, and there were numerous times directions were given to us, always in a friendly manner.

The world is made of all kinds of peoples. It is human nature to judge or form opinions on something that we dont know or hear about it.I personally never had any problem when I travelled or lived overseas, mostly because I treat people with kindness ,respect and observe their customs. Regarding the Parisians some are snobs is true, however they are many that are kind also. To give you an example, last summer I was in a Paris metro with my son and my grandaughter, as always the place was jammed with peoples and was so hot! This nice Arab young man not only gave me his seat but he also gave me a wipe to dry my sweat!!Nikecool, go to Paris, have an open mind, watch your billford in the metro and have a great time..

My experiences have all been positive. The only rude person I met on my last trip was a fellow American! I wonder if traveling with all females (of a certain age) helps some. I found Parisians to be friendly and helpful, with an ironic sense of humor when I was lucky enough to find someone who spoke English, since I don't know enough French to trade quips otherwise.

garybear Mar 6th, 2003 09:19 AM

Go. People do not treat others rudely unless there is a reason.

TConrad Mar 6th, 2003 09:27 AM
I would not care so much if the French were rude to me as I care about spending dollars in a country that has shown great contempt for the US.
I will be spending those dollars somewhere else this year and next and next.
jor Mar 6th, 2003 09:43 AM

I have heard that line about Parisians being snobs a billion times.

I also met two of the nicest people ever in my travels who lived in the heart of Paris. We stayed with them for 3 days and were treated extremely well.

And i think the orginal post is a troll.

Brutforce Mar 6th, 2003 10:17 AM

I believe the troll alert is valid. Nikecool has only posted twice, I am sure we are dealing w/a name changing troll.
