Paris, ONE great meal...
 

OK, it has been suggested that my DH and I, when we go to Paris at the end of April for our 25th anniversary, that we go out and splurge for "one great meal" in the city of lights.

So, Fodorites, where should that one great meal be? We'll be staying on the Left Bank (I think) if that matters.

We love just about anything. Particularly fish, seafood. I am not fond of game. We like variety and choices. Don't want a prix fix menu with five choices. We are not big on desserts. Love nice wine. Would love a spot with some atmosphere, but don't need a view, per se.

I am thinking of the place where Jack Nickolson went to find Diane Keaton in Something's Gotta Give...wasn't that the name of the movie? The restaurants was kind of romantic looking to me...

Would love to have a great meal for under $2oo US or thereabouts, if possible. Is that possible? I really don't know.

The restaurant in the movie is Le Grand Colbert in the 2nd district. It is traditional but I don't believe I've read that the food can be considered 'one great meal'.

I've read that L'Atelier Maitre Albert is pretty good. It's in the 5th district near the Seine. And it's got atmosphere, should be withing your budget, and has fish as a part of the menu choices.

You might consider one of our favorites: Au Petit Marguery, in the 13th. It's a family-run place; the prix fixe menu has about a dozen choices in each category, of which our absolute all-time favorite is the fresh woodmushrooms sautéed with garlic and parsley. The wine list is excellent, and the service is top notch. The atmosphere is very old Paris.

Heavens, we are celebrating our 25th. wedding anni. in September at Le Grand Colbert, because it is a very traditional looking Paris restaurant, we loved the movie and the seafood platters are supposed to be spectacular. Yum!
