Paris on New Years Suggestions for Dining and Entertainment!

My fiancee and I are travelling for seven weeks through Europe.
We will be in Paris for New Year's Eve and are staying near the Rebuplique.
I was wondering if anyone could help me out please with any recommendations on where to be/what to do for new years eve! I have read about being at the Eiffel Tower for fireworks (can we bring our own champagne onto the streets?), but am unaware of anything else that we may enjoy. We are 26 and 23 and are outgoing, however as we are newly engaged, taking something beautiful in and not going clubbing, etc. on New Years would be nice too.

Also, have just read that we should book something for dingin for NYE! Is this necessary, and if so, any recommendation?! I good meal, but nothing over 50Euro pp please!
Thanks, Chantelle

Very touristy, but you might enjoy taking in a show at Le Lido. It's supposed to be a more refined version of the Moulin Rouge. For either, reservations are a MUST.

For me, though, I might like being in Montmartre for New Year's Eve and the views over Paris would be fantastic.

You can always try for dinner on the Eiffel Tower at the last minute if you cannot secure a reservation at this late date.

I dont think Paris has fireworks on NYE...not very big ones anyways...

We had 2009/2010 NYE dinner at le tastevin on Isle St Louis and had a lovely time. Be sure to make reservations for dinner soon!

Where did you read about the Eiffel Tower for fireworks for NY eve? That's in July for the national day. I think they did that once around 2000 for the Millennium or something, but I've never heard about that as any regular thing on NY eve.

If you need to book something is really based on what you want. Given your age, if you just want pizza or something to eat, fast food, etc., not some fine dining experience, don't book anything, I'm sure you won't starve. You will pay a fortune for a NY eve reservation at a restaurant or some place with entertainment. If you want to walk around the streets drinking, I think you may be in good company on the CHamps-Elysees (mobbed) or for your age, why not try in the Bastille area, lots of folks around there (place de la Bastille) or just bd St Michel/St Germain. Lots of folks just walk around the streets celebrating, that may be enough for you, just play it by ear.

I don't think the Lido is more "refined" than Moulin Rouge, it is just glitzier and more like a Vegas show. I bet it will cost a fortune on NY eve. A lot of thes eplaces will be totally booked by now, anyway.

sorry, I just noticed you will be around place de la Republique. Perfect for the Bastille area, and the little streets with bars, etc. just running off the place de la Bastille to the N/NE. Or try rue Oberkampf, inbetween the two, it is full of bars and younger clientele in your age bracket.
