I used a 2 day museum pass in Paris a few weeks ago. It was well worth it because I wanted to hit some new museums and revisit some past favorites. A big plus is not having to wait in line. I went specifically to see the new Islamic exhibit in the Louvre but I also hit 10 other places. There is a great exhibit at the Archaelogical Crypt Museum of Notre Dame - enter near Prefecture de Police on Paris History and Settlement of the left bnak. It is near Ste. Chappelle,the Concergerie and the Cluny, and all can be seen on the museum pass.

I don't know that district at all well, but I think it is in one of the ritziest areas of Paris. Food prices may be much higher than the places Kerouac is talking about.

Well, it's still an upscale neighborhood, but you'll save a bit of money on shopping (but not necessarily on local restaurants because there are quite a few luxury and business hotels in the area). Rue Pierre Demours might be your local market street, but you might want to wander over to rue de Lévis as well.

Don't sit at the tables outside cafés. If you just want a quick drink for refreshment, cheapest is obviously to buy bottled water from an out-of-the-way grocery and carry it round with you; but you can also save a bit by ordering (and standing) at the bar.

My "hidden gem" for a cheap sit-down lunch in a prime location would be the self-service "restaurant" (cafeteria-style) on the ground floor the Cité de l'Architecture et Patrimonie at Trocadéro. No admission required to just eat there. Though the museum is one of its kind - especially the murals from all over France.

You get fresh cooked pasta with a choice of 8 or so sauces for 7.50-10. Sandwiches and salads are also available. And you get to eat it with a splendid full-size view of the Eiffel tower :-)

Oh, and if you like bargain shopping you should not miss the Tati department store at Metro Barbès-Rochechouart in Montmartre. While it is not geared at tourists or typical souvenirs, it is quite a place to browse. I now have a very stylish French shower curtain for €3 :-)
