Armistice Day today and what a nasty day! It got worse as it went on. I hopped on the #42 bus and went to the Hotel Ritz and Bar Vendome. I had a nice, nice table that backed up to the garden area. A glass of champagne to start with and no hurry for anything else.

It was nasty when I left there. rainy and very windy..umbrellas were turning inside out..including mine. Even the good ones, which mine was not! I will buy a new one tomorrow and dump the one I have!

Hi oakglen

Yes, I was just looking at my mail. I too, received one. The usual winter time thing that they all seem to do for the Jan/Feb sort of thing. Amazing how so many will jump on the sale prices for those months. Some good bargains!

My next trip will be mid April - mid May, so won't work for me!!

Nasty weather here now! All our umbrellas were turned inside out today with the wind. Need to pick up a new one tomorrow.

a bientot...

What a place to hang out in nasty weather..I would have stretched that lunch out for hours; it looked divine. If you are stuck in rain, might as well be Paris!

Hope sun eventually shines for you,

Joan,

Happy that you're having a good time. Your photos whet my appetite everytime I see them.

I'll be in Paris next May and would like to have High Tea at one of the 5* hotels (yes, a real splurge). Which one would you recommend?

Thank you.
Happy Veterans Day and Happy Armistace Day. A day late I know.

Bonjour,

Bar Vendome is a special spot. I like everything about it! It being a hotel, you can drop in for a cup of coffee, if you want to.

I am going to tea at the Crillon on Sunday. Good friends (laidback) were there last Sun when I was at l'Obe and spoke very, very highly of it. So travginny, I will let you know.

The Crillon and the Ritz and close behind the Bristol are just in a class by themselves. Way above the newer hotels out there. It definitely shows in every way.

I should have my Bristol FashionShow/Tea reservation today. Many were not working yesterday with the holiday. If you can be lucky enough to be in Paris for one of them, don't miss it!

I may go to Taillevent or Guy Savoy. Taillevent is an old favorite, and Savoy seemed to rise above all, with service when there for dinner.

Stu and Ellen...I think you would both like the Court-Bouillon where I went with Pat/Jim. Easy to get to with the 42 bus. I will be returning. Another one nearby it that I am going to also.

The weather makes a difference where I might go..and..with the Constant's across the street, it makes it easy. You can't eat better in Paris! Many will rave about something or other at a restaurant..could check back and probably find that they were taught by Christian!!

I have many things to come!!

Joan.......sounds like you have had some great eats in the last few days!!i am jealous!!it sounds like you have some fun things to look forward to.
i am recovering from the time change and lack of sleep. it is hard to get into the daily routine. i know i should be doing the treadmill to help get rid of the extra calories from last week.
i had such a grand week dining with you that it i wished that the time did not go so fast. i will have to go for two weeks on the next trip.
as for THE MADISON HOTEL i could not recommend it to anyone. i went a week without any english speaking television. i was made to feel that i did not know how to operate the tv. they would not recognise that they were having problems. all i could get was a smurky smile from them. after awhile i gave up on them. they did upgradt my room ,but still no english speaking television. it is nice to have some CNNor BBC when one is gone .

joan , enjoy every day while you are there. you are very fortunate to be able to stay such a nice long time .

we are getting snow this weekend.!!

Hi Sue..

Good to hear from you. We were in touch while you were part way hoem re the shuttle arriving 25 min ahead of time etc. and a good trip home

Yes, we had fun, but too short a time for you. You will have to do as many of us do. Upon return home, begin your planning for next trip! Never too soon. If thinking of an apartment, you do have to plan early to get what you want.

Sorry to hear about snow coming!!

I went to Pinnochio's father's place for lunch today..Gepetto! May be why Pinnochio left home. Was not the greatest!

Grey and little rain today. Bought a new umbrella as yesterday's wind took care of the other one!

Stopped at a favorite outlet and did buy a nice cashmere t-neck sweater. A nice heavy one..not one of these paper thin things that I see around.

Going to Au Petit Sud Ouest for lunch tomorrow. I stopped in to visit with her and we will have fun visiting tomorrow.

I do have my Bristol Fashion Show/Tea reservation!

Sorry to hear about Sue's problems at the Madison. I guess I'll have to stop recommending the hotel--I understand that it's changed hands since the last time we were there, and that may be the problem.

Keep the news coming, Joan!

Oh Joan, how I wish I am with you right now enjoying Paris "malgre la pluit et le vent". I'll take that anytime as long as it is in Paris.

I do enjoy following your day to day pleasures and gourmet dining - happy for you and sorry for me. Say hello to Jim and Pat the next time you see them!

Amuse-toi bien, mon amie!!!

bisous,
Lilia

Bonsoir,

Oh, Lilia, I do wish you were here, too. I often think of the fun that we had together!! Jim/Pat leave on Monday. They will not be here in the spring with putting house on the market. They may come to Asheville when they make a duty trip to Agusta for Pat's mother who is in a nursing home. That will be fun!

Jean;Yes, I did recommend the Madison to Sue from all your good words about it. Places do change. Too bad. Hard to keep up to date with them all, if you haven't been recently.

acacia67; There is a little spot 66 rue St. Dominique called Le Coin des Marques. They receive merchandise a couple times a week. You never know what it might be. It's a little hole in the wall, but fun to look. Many have bought things for little ones there for almost nothing.

travginny, try tea at the Hotel Grand Intercontinental at l'Opéra in Paris. I think it's just the most classic Parisian spot for a high-class tea. It's true I don't generally travel in high-tea circles, but I have been there a few times and consider it to be such a gracious, lovely experience, and the food and service are outstanding.

For a luxury afternoon tea (not High Tea, which is something different), I go to either the Plaza Athenee (for a pot of Darjeeling Margaret's Hope served in the Galeries de Gobelins) or the Georges V http://www.fourseasons.com/paris/dining/la_galerie/
live piano music.

But those aren't something I do on a regular basis, and when I do, they take the place of either lunch (if I go early) or dinner (if I go late).

Bonjour,

I'm sure there are many places for afternoon tea. I think you would have to try many to compare and find the one that you preferred. The recommendation for the Crillon, comes from friends who share the pleasure of many places with me..and..I find so much pleasure with whatever at the Crillon that I will give it a try tomorrow!

I have dined at the Georges V, Le Cinq, Galleries and their bar and do not feel that it is up to the old prestige of the Crillon. Plaza Athenee is quite modern, in many ways. I think I will then try the Ritz for comparison, seeing that I also enjoy the Bar Vendome there so much.

Many fine ones, I am sure!!

I am about to go to Au Petit Sud Ouest for lunch. Nice, nice people and nearby with the strange weather. I will wander the neighborhood after lunch....

a bientot...
