My sisters and I will be in Paris the week of April 26-May 1 and are planning to visit Normandy. I have a Great Uncle buried in the American Cemetary and am wondering if anyone knows if there is a way to find his gravesite. Any help would be appreciated.

We will also be visiting Normandy this summer in July. My great-uncle is buried at the American Cemetary as well. I located his grave at the American Battlefields Monument Commission website. www.abmc.gov. It is very helpful. On the left side of the home page, click on the World War II database and enter the name (last name followed by a space and the first name). You can also just search by the last name and then choose from the list. When his name comes up, click on the "Go" button and it will give you the grave site by row. The site also gives information about visiting the cemetary. There is a guide you can download in PDF form and a video.

I also found many helpful links on the websites of the various tour companies. We have chosen Battlebus for our tour.

Your heading mentions Normandy AND Brittany, so Mont St Michel might be central to your area of interest? If so, other enjoyable places nearby are St Malo, Dinan, Fougeres. Indeed Dinan is a favourite place of mine, with its Upper Town of cobbled shopping lanes and Lower Town of riverside cafes. I also second the vote for Honfleur - a very picturesque seaside place.

Wonderful! We have chosen to stay in Honfleur, Dinan and a B&B close to Chambord Castle. It seems those are centrally located for day trips to the sights and activities we are interested in. Thanks so much for your advice!

There are two places I would recommend in Brittany. The first is Perros-Guirec, overlooking the sea. We stayed at Le Manoir Du Sphinx and had a beautiful room and a first-class meal there. There are many very interesting pink granite rock formations in the area that make for wonderful walks. The other is Pont-Aven, which is where Paul Gauguin and a number of his followers went to paint. It's still has an active artist colony there. It's a perfectly beautiful small town and we stayed at the Moulin de Rosmadec, which is situated on the river and has an excellent restaurant. There are many nice walks in that area as well.

hopingtotravel: I just noticed your question about the Chateau de Sully. I think it is very easy to find your way around Bayeaux and to the Chateau after dark. The roads are well marked and Bayeaux seemed quite easy to navigate in and out of.
