Gretchen...
I really like the Paris Mapguide, because it shows every street in the areas of the city that is covers [most of the central part], and has a very good index. Also the maps are large and easy to read. |
Just so you all will know, I'm taking the taxi! But I'll defitely hit the metro and buses once I put that luggage down!
|
Jayne--Hope you have a great time! There is a handy pocket-sized booklet by L'Indispensible, "Le Bus," which contains all of the bus routes.
|
Jayne, you won't regret the taxi--and particularly if you are sharing.
And Ron is right about the bus guide--it is an excellent one (I have it too Ron). |
Isn't this interesting? The OP asked how to get to her hotel on the tube, and the Fodoregulars badgered her into taking a cab.
When a certain poster offers alternatives to a cab, he gets lambasted. |
Not just exactly. She asked IF it was complicated to do it on the "tube". She also offered in her short post the very telling "never been to Paris and feeling overwhelmed".
People who have been there done that offered that a taxi would be preferable--in their opinion. AND those that did answer her question about the Metro confirmed that it is pretty complicated. Your point? |
Jayne1973,
I agree that if this is your first time to Paris and specially if you are arriving with a fair amount of luggage that using a taxi is by far the easiest and best way to get to your hotel. That being said, in my humble opinion the best and most economical way to get around Paris during your stay is by using the metro in combination with day passes which will allow you to easily move around the city. Take a deep breath and relax, don't be intimmidated by the Paris metro because in reality it is a very well planned and really very easy to use system. Just pick up any good Paris guide book and read about the nuances of how the metro works and spend some time studying the metro map with regards to the sights that you are planning to visit. I think you'll be surprised as to how well you'll be able to use and master it. |
