I'd absolutely take the rue Monge place if it's toward the southern end of rue Monge. You'll be close to the rue Mouffetard, an especially nice pedestrian-only, shopping street -- great place to do your daily shopping. The atmosphere is very much a Paris neighborhood, excellent place to base yourselves.

If the apartment is closer to the Seine end of Monge, I'd look for somewhere else to stay -- someplace that's more of a residential neighborhood.

If you want "touristy" definitely visit Rue Mouffetard! Rue Monge: bad public transport connections.

Christina: I used to temporary live in that location. The crowds are concentrated in a minute area, close to the Seine. Otherwise: not very noticeable.

This is in October 2016

The "real" Paris certainly isn't in that general area: it's now in the double digit arrondissements. :)

Rue Mouff years ago was a rather real neighborhood but not an extenstion of Latin Quarter though a bit removed but still a nice area and well located.

Well, it was an extension in terms of the fact that students used to eat there when the Huchette-Harpe area became unbearable. But most students have long since moved on. I guess I should be grateful that tourists are still chasing after them 20 years late.

Am I the only person wondering if the OP will return some day to look at us talking to ourselves? Perhaps they found a high energy website more attuned to their affinities.

OP has posted the same on Rick Steves and Trip Adv. She got an answer she liked on TA and retired. Meanwhile, the conversation has been interesting.

Was their hair blue?

I don't know, but the OP is spewing venom on the Thorn Tree.

Quite audacious for someone who just registered everywhere on October 16, 2017.

You don't need to be a regular to distill poison.
Some are naturals.

Meanwhile I'll sleep in the 18th next week. One if my fav area. Actually I find as a rule 2 digits more like the real Paris. Village like areas with real life. Like you can find a locksmith or a flower shop or or.

Close to Joffrin métro.

It doesn't seem as if he/she has solved the problem of a hotel, either.
