Paris Neighborhood Advise?

Paris neighborhood advise?
Planning a trip to Paris in April. Need advise on neighborhoods to stay. This time we are renting an apartment and seek a neighborhood that is very accessible to the metro, café’s and restaurants at night. We found a great apartment in the 1st.arrondissemen near the Louvre but lots of Fodorites are suggesting the Marais neighborhood. The last time I was in Paris, the Latin quarter was in vogue but that was many years ago. We don’t need nightclubs or bars at night, just quiet places to sit and have a coffee. Please advise, Thank you.

We love 6st arrondis.
It is elegant, grown -up, full of lovely cafes and interesting stors.

..I like the 6th near the 7th (as oposed to the 6th near the 5th. The above poster describes the area well. The Marais is nice too but, I have always considered it a second (recent) visit destination. I think if I were in my early 20s again (and I was whe I first stayed there 25 years ago), I would recomend this area to you. I have seen the Marais change a lot in the last 25 years. When I first visited it was a little Boho, trouble finding a place to buy eggs one morning, and Place des Voges wasn't on the list of Paris must sees..now the tour buses circle...but this is another topic and I shouldn't remenisce.

agreed, closer to 7th !
The last time we were in Paris (in March) we had an apt. in 8th and still spent time across the river in the 6th.
Even if your apt is near the Louvre, you are not too far.

For elegance and location I like a little slice of the 5th arrondissement near Place Maubert: rue Maitre Albert and rue de Bievre.

Hi R,

If it suits you take it.

Do you have an address?

Dave,

"For elegance and location I like a little slice of the 5th arrondissement near Place Maubert: rue Maitre Albert and rue de Bievre."

I agree, but are there apartments available there?

I enjoyed staying in the First.
Lots of cafe's, it is of course central to getting to all parts of Paris. The Marais is nice, but not my first choice anymore. Gollygeewhiz, maybe a question should be raised exactly what part IS NOT nice and why?
What "neighborhood" is not close to the metro, cafe's, good restaurants, etc?
