Paris - Need another easily accessible city
Hi,
I will be in Paris and Provence in October. We have 4 days that we would like to spend in another city. We would like an easily accessible city from Paris or Provence, a couple hours away by train or a convenient cheap flight away. We were thinking of Rome, Milan or Barcelona. Or is a better suggestion?? I have gotten really good response to my earlier questions, thank you! |
How about another city in France? Dijon, Rouen, and Lyon come immediately to mind.
|
And Strasbourg.

I second Strasbourg..a beautiful city surrounded by picturesque countryside... Stu T. |
Strasbourg, Annecy or Lucerne.

Does it have to be a "city" - though, of course, definitions of that term vary. I would hire a car and take a trip west to Normandy - visit Honfleur, Caen, and wander the narrow lanes. Go to the D Day Beaches and see 'small' France - a very well trodden track but still well worth it.
Just a thought. |
We had fun a few weekends ago driving around in the Champagne region. See the related trip report under my name.
You might also consider a region or town toward the Southwest of France, accessible by TGV (e.g. Bordeaux, La Rochelle, Tours). Bordeaux was 3 hours from Paris on the train. |
You have gotten great ideas so far. We were in Lyon and it was a lovely city but I think 4 days would be too much. You could do Lyon, and Dijon or Lyon, Beaune.
How about the Loire Valley? You could easily do 4 days there. Not sure how the train route works from Provence though - might have to go through Paris to get there. If you want a city because you don't want to rent a car, you could take a mini van tour. BTW, Milan is nice but 4 days would be too much. |
Hi Shoo,
Where will you be in Provence? Will you have a car? ((I)) |
I vote for Barcelona. I have taken the train from Sete to Barcelona many times and it is a very enjoyable ride.
