PARIS - Need a Romantic Hotel Recommendation, Wife's first trip
 

I'm not really wed to any particular area, I just want to find a nice place. It is my wife's first trip, and it may be our last to Paris, so I would like to make it special. I don't want to break the bank, but I don't want to skimp either.

Any thoughts or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

I think that in order to get any useful suggestions, you will have to give us an amount per night.

Well, without knowing what you want to spend, a few thoughts are:

Hotel Lutetia
Espirit Saint Germain
Relais Saint Germain
Hotel Madison

On the Right Bank, near Opera Garnier, the Le Grand (Hotel Intercontinental)is larger but very nice and the restaurant is beautiful . We prefer the Left Bank, but have wonderful memories of this hotel and having a glass of champagne every night before turning in.

You might also look at Luxembourg Parc Hotel. It is a boutique hotel right across from the Luxembourg Gardens. Some of their rooms have views of the gardens. It's in a perfect location in the 6th. They have some excellent early booking rates. We are staying there in December.

If you want "romantic," InterContinental Le Grand is quite a large hotel... probably not what you're looking for here.


I've had a site inspection of Esprit Saint Germain, and here's my review:

"Looking for a boutique hotel on the Left Bank? Eglise St Germain is located near the Eglise St Sulpice and offers an attractive location from which to explore the 6th arrondissement with its shops, boutiques, and markets. The major feature of the hotel are the two homey, comfortable living rooms on the ground floor. Guests make extensive use of these common areas which feature a complimentary open bar, soft drinks, and coffee and tea throughout the day.

Guest rooms are quite small. This is typical of Left Bank hotels as they are situated in older buildings with smaller rooms. Most luxury guests will want to book either a Premier Room or a Suite. The Premier room is essentially the size of the hotel's Deluxe rooms with a larger closet and bathroom. The top floor Premier room has a terrace looking over the rooftops toward Eglise St Sulpice, while the others have more floor space. Suites are small Jr. Suites, a small sitting area separated from the small bedroom.

If having a lot of space is a priority, this hotel will not work for you. But Esprit St Germain has a lot of repeat guests who enjoy the residential feeling of the hotel."

That is my question, too. How big is that bank of yours?

Most of the hotels suggested here would certainly shatter my personal piggy bank!

Yes, first the budget, then the recommendations. Paris has some many good options.

An Eiffel Tower view room at the Hotel Relais Bosquet would do the trick for me. Have stayed there but not splurged for the view.

Also like the look of the Hotel Regina but have never been a guest there.

So, how sturdy is your bank??

Try Hotel Millesime, 15 rue Jacob in the 6th. Very nice place, excellent location, gracious English speaking staff. Superior room with a French balcony onto rue Jacob is romantic.

If your bank is mid-size and mid-sturdy (not super big and indestructible), you could also consider a prestige or superior room at Hotel du Danube on rue Jacob.

Friends honeymooned at the Hotel de Lutece on Ile Saint Louis. Less expensive and, as they said, "cozy." They loved it.

Pricey: Relais Christine, rue Christine, in the 6th.

Thank you everyone!!! The extent of my bank is $300 per night, although I'd love to stay around $250. I also meant to include that we are looking at the very beginning of September.

good luck on that one in terms of some of these suggestions, they will be impossible with that budget in September, high season for hotels. Last time I looked (recently) the Madison was 300 euro or more per room, for example. SO you are talking 200 euro per night or less. Hotel de Lutece isn't available at all in September (are you aware hotels are booked up far in advance for September? better get busy), unfortunately, as they do have rooms for 200-225 euro. The BW Au Manoir St Germain is a good choice, but rooms are about 270 euro and up for September.

The rates at the Madison have skyrocketed. The standard/classic double online rate for September is now €470.

I plugged in 7 nights first week of September at the Hotel du Danube for a superior room (I've stayed in one of their superiors, it was nice, not as tiny as some Paris hotels). 1575 Euros, so just under $300/night.

Hmm. I've been thinking about the poster's request. So many possibilities have been suggested that it just proves my hypothesis. That would be that everywhere in Paris is romantic. "Romantic" is everywhere. Not just a romantic hotel but e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e.
