Paris Navigo decouverte reduced price for children?

We are taking our son and his family to Paris in June for one week, Saturday to Saturday. I'm trying to get an idea of metro expenses for a family of 5, children will be 12 and two 9 year olds. My husband and I have the navigo decouverte to which we will add another week even though it will only be useable for 5 days of our stay, Mon-Fri. Our son,Nathan and his family could use an entire carnet with each metro round trip so that could add up quickly.

It probably makes sense for the adults and 12 year old of the family to also get the navigo decouverte but is there a reduced weekly navigo pass for children. If there isn't then for the twins it might be best to buy the 5 day Paris visite pass which I noticed online is selling for about $23.

Does anyone know if there is a weekly navigo decouverte with reduced pricing for children? Thanks for any information you can provide. Deborah

no. This pass and the prior Carte Orange were really intended as adult commuter passes, basically. Children who are residents have other discount passes they can get which are longer term, like a month.

I think children are one case where a Paris Visite can make sense, but they aren't priced in dollars, so wherever you see that pricing, that is not the official govt source. The 5 day children Paris Visite is about 17 euro, which is about $24 right now, so if you get it for that without any problems (ie, no mailing charge and no deal where you have to go to some special place to pick it up), it would be okay.

It used to be that you could buy kids under 12 "demi-tariff" metro tickets and carnets - half-priced tickets - not sure if this is still so but may well be - I know unscrupolous adults who bought those tickets at used them to trip the turnstiles fantastic! Of course spot checks may catch them and fine them as they should be IMO>

Thanks Christina, I suspected there wasn't a navigo decouverte for children. I agree with you about the 5 day Paris Visite being a good choice for the younger children in this situation.

It becomes further complicated because the twins will be 10 when we travel and I think most reduced metro/bus fares are for under 10 except the Paris Viste for children which is 11 and under.

I'll have to spend more time reading about the Paris Visite pass since we've never used them. Thanks again, Deborah

currently on the Paris Tourist Office web site - still have demi-tarif or half-priced tickets though not clear to me whether it is 4-9 or 4-11 as it says 4 to 9 or 11? Applies to metro, bus, RER and trams.

Palenq, I know there are reduced prices still available for children, carnets included but I think they are for children under 10 and since the boys will already be 10 in June I think they are not entitled to the discount.

Ron and I have always had such an easy time moving around Paris whether with carnets or navigo. I'm finding it a challenge to balance the best price fares for a larger family along with convenience. I can't imagine keeping track of individual metro tickets for a family of 5 so multi-day passes seem the way to go Thanks, Deborah
