Paris Mulen Ruge and shows
 

We are 4 days in Paris.
I would like to see some shows on a "Happy" note. Broadway style if you like, but Moulen Ruge I've heard is not worth watching.
We do not speak french.
So, any suggestions ?
Anything "Intertaiment-wise would be helpfull.

DH and I enjoyed the Moulin Rouge show, so don't let people discourage you from considering it.

There are several threads about it here, along with other Revue type shows (Lido, etc.)

I did see one nice Italian moview with French subtitles, though.

I have seen the show at Moulin Rouge and Lido and enjoyed both. Skip the dinner and go just for the show.

Watch out for those Ruges; they are a tough breed, particularly the ones that mulen people in the dark.

Moulin Rouge isn't theater, so not like Broadway. It's like a Las Vegas variety/showgirl show.

They don't really do English musical theater much in Paris. Once in a great while they have something going on like that, and sometimes it could be enjoyable even if in French. Right now there is the "Elvis Story" at the Theater Mogodo (musical about you-know-who) and "Belles Belles Belles", a musical comedy at the famous Olympia theater in the opera area. There is also a musical adaptation of Gone with the Wind at the Palais des Sport de Paris (in French called "Autant en Emporte le Vent"). That is by the guy I was thinking of who did Romeo and Juliet, a musical show, a year or two ago. That might be... interesting.

I don't really know what Belles Belles Belles is exactly, except a lot of singing and dancing, apparently. I don't think it's a girlie show like Moulin Rouge, etc. (despite its name). I found one customer review of this show and it is called a musical comedy and is about 3 girls who form a group in school, and about their story from there to eventually entering a singing contest. Lots of songs and dance. I gather all the songs are by Claude Francois whose show it is, and that somehow it is a French female adaptation of the Everly Brothers life. Well, that could be fun, why not, at least it's central (tickets about 35-50 euro).

Juliette Greco is at the Olympia from 2/19 to 3/11, now I'd love to hear her.

OK, I've just checked
$150 pp for half bottle of wine that comes "with the show ?" plus kids aren't permitted.
So, I'll go without it definitely.

Any other things to be intertained by ? (I preffer not to go to movies if I can not to ... what if it's boring?)

I think the movies is just a auggestion if you can't find something else to do. At least it's relaxing. Many theaters show a lot of American movies (or English) and they seem to be showing in Paris at about the time they come out on DVD in the US. So, you can pick whatever movie you want. MOvies are not that expensive in Paris, less than 10 euro. I probably wouldn't go with only four days there unless you just get tired.

Sometimes it's nice to see foreign films that aren't in the US yet, but you have to either know French (written for the subtitles) or the other language. I say Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress in Paris last summer which was outstanding and it still hasn't been shown in the US as far as I know.

With hesitation, as St. Cirq says, I recommend Au Lapin Agile, also.

We went to the Au Lapin Agile last February. Got up and walked out after the first 1/2 hour. Had no clue what was going on. There were 3-4 people sitting around the table singing French songs, and neither my wife nor I speak French. We noticed several other couples in the room with blank stares.

As we got up and were going to get our coats, I think we surprised the lady in the cloak room as she was going thru coat pockets. ((b))

You MUST be kidding ...
10 years ago I went toGermany and was stunned by people were leaving strollers with infants outside the stores. My Mom who lived there for years told me that nothing bad ever happening here, so no worry.
Then at midnight on the train station we were sitting next to "abandonned" luggage for hours untill owner came, picked that up and went with his train.
No one ever touched it.
So I was under impression that there not much thieves abroad.
But your story is something opening my eyes. Thanks for the warning
