What's the best choice for transportation for a visit of 2 weeks and a visit of 6 weeks (lucky me!!!)?

Only Metro? No buses, no RER trains? Go to http://www.ratp.fr/en/ratp/r_61595/f...-way-in-paris/ and check out the options on the right of the screen, also consider just buying a carnet (ten tix at a discount), and use the excellent trip planner to input a few sample trips to learn what's involved for various itineraries. The you'll know what suits your plans.

For that long, it seems it would have to be the Navigo pass. YOU can load it for one week or one month. That's a reloadable electronic ticket, basically, you have to pay 5 euro to buy it as I recall, and it has an ID photo on it. The month is solely 1st to the 1st, not 30 days whenever.

Paris is a good walking city.

We have never used more than one carnet per person per week.

The Navigo Découverte is excellent for periods running from Monday to Sunday.

Yep, I'd vote Navigo too.

For the sheer convenience I would go navigo for the 6 weeks, but maybe only carnets for the two weeks. You need to use about 3 tickets minimum a day to make the navigo worth while, but oh so easy to zoom past those machines and just press your bag on the sensor and off you go! Can be used on the buses as well. As can the carnet of course.

i vote for the Navigo monthly if that works out (we were in Paris for 9 weeks...lucky too!) and did a lot of walking but when you are there and out virtually everyday, it was quite convenient to have the Navigo card. (it was also good to go to and from the airport on the weekends-not sure if that is still true, even though it was only for zones 1 and 2).

My apt. is 15, rue de L'ancienne comedie, 6e. Is this zone 1 or 2 so that I could go to/fm CDG w/ Navigo?

All of Paris within the 20 arrondisements is zone 1. Nothing much is in zone 2, but you always get them together (I think maybe La Defense, some narrow ring just outside zone 1). The website has a map of the zones.

I'm not up on the latest about the zones on the weekends thing, but the website mentions it -- on the weekends, even if you only buy zone 1-2, you can use all 5 zones anyway, which would include the airport from midnight Friday to midnight Sunday. However, this is only true for the monthly Navigo, not the weekly one, AND as far as I know, it was only effective July 13th to August 18th, not any other time of the year.

I am sure that the zones 1-2 pass includes access to every Metro station.

yes, I think it does (I know the regular ticket t+ gives you access to every metro stop regardless of zones, and from what I've read, that dispensation is also applicable to the Navigo--if you buy it for zones 1-2, you can use it to go to any metro stop). The zones really apply to the RER. YOu may not be able to go to zone 3 on the bus, either, not sure.

There are actually some metro stops in zone 3, in fact, I checked and La Defense is actually in zone 3, not zone 2. But there are a few others at the very ends of some lines that are also in zone 3. NO tourist would likely be going to most of them, anyway, though, other than to La Defense (such as the ones in Creteil at the end of line 8, or Gabriel Peri at the northern end of line 13).

I'm sure you are generally correct, but my wife and I--tourists for sure--have had occasion to go to the final stop on Metro lines 1, 3, 5, 8, and 13, and perhaps others, without having to be concerned about whether they were in zone 3.

As far as the weekly and monthly navigo card being good to and from the airport on weekends. We used both a weekly and a monthly navigo card to go to cdg over the weekend back in April of this year. Christina mentions only the monthly is honored per the website. i don't know if that was true or not back in April but it was my understanding that a navigo card (weekly or monthly could be used)). I thought it was a temporary program at the time. Anyway, it is worth checking the website for clarification if either the weekly or monthly can be used while you are there.

Apparently only the monthly pass (stated elsewhere that the weekly pass does not apply), on weekends and holidays.

Merci everyone . I'll get a monthly Navigo for all of May and carnets for the two weeks. I also think it's worth extra to have convenience.
