Paris Metro sta."Grands Boulevards"

The hotel I booked is located at 23 rue du Faubourg Montmartre. It is
supposed to be 2 minutes walking distance from metro station "Grands
Boulevards" (line N°9), and have several busses that stop by it (lines
n°67, n° ). Can we get to all the "sites" easily. Is the area safe enough to be out in the evening alone? Should I buy a Metro pass?
Thanks,
Janet

This is in the big department stores area on a busy street. The stop is just outside TGIF's, Ben and Jerry's, and Hard Rock Cafe. Two of Paris's remaining enclosed shopping galleries are right at this stop. Galeries Lafayette is about two blocks down the street. Line 9 will connect you to most anywhere you want to go. I stayed in a hotel just inside one of the shopping galleries last summer and got around fine from that point.

Janet: Since you will be close by, here is a recommendation for a restaurant that I think you will like. We stumbled upon it, but I have since read some reviews in magazines about it:
To go to Vaudeville Restaurant:
AT the Grande Boulevardes stop, cross over to the Panaroma Galleries. Walk all the way through. Go to the right. Walk towards the Bourse . It is across the street. This is a good site to go to see the street you will be on and "locate yourself".http://www.pagesjaunes.fr
Janet,
Instead of a Metro pass you can buy a "carnet" of 10 tickets at the metro. Enjoy, you will be at a nice location. I don't think you will have any problem being out at night. I had no problem. But then, I'm sixty, overweight and grey. :-)

Hi Janet. Could you give me a little more information on the Hotel that you booked. I'll be in Paris in Sept and it sounds like a good choice.

Thanks
Art
I just returned a few weeks ago and stayed right by there at the Aston Hotel. I found it extremely convenient, never more than 10 minute trip to the sites. Actually on numerous occasions (mainly in the morning) we would start of our day by walking to our destination. It is a relatively lively area. Lots of people out and about in the evening.

Enjoy!

This hotel's name is the Hotel Pulitzer Opera (there is no sp at the end of the name, sometimes an "sp" gets added to word endings due to character set incompatibilities on the internet, I thought it was due to accent marks, though). I don't know where Janet booked it, but you can see some nice photos and info on it at www.france-hotel-online.com. I'm giving no recommendations on that web site as I've never used it to book, but their rates for this hotel are extremely good for the apparent quality and amenities, so I'd be surprised if you could do better (they just opened in Jan 2000 so maybe rates are low to attract clients; that isn't the most in-demand or expensive tourist locality, either, so that probably helps keep the rates low, in comparison to the 6th, for example). I answered a question for her on this area several weeks ago and posted some local area restaurant and attraction information, so if you are at all interested, you can probably find it if you search for some specific phrase (ie, grands boulevards or pulitzer)
