Paris metro questions
 

Hi All,
I am researching for our trip and does anyone know what arrodisment (?spelling), the Hilton Arc de Triomphe is located? Also, what zone would the Hilton AT be in for metro purposes?
Is it possible to purchase the metro tickets in advance?
I must admit that on our trip, Paris excites me the most and yet scares me the most. None of us speak any French. I know only the pleasantries. We will only be there 4 days. I am just a little nervous about getting around without too much knowledge of the language. I am trying to learn some phrases between now and June. I am thinking the metro will be the fastest and easiest mode of travel outside walking.

Did you look at their website? It usually gives that type of info or you can email them about what zone etc.

No Hilton does not give their arrodisment or their zone. I was hoping someone here just knew it off hand.

You can find lots of information on the website of the RATP:

The closest metro station from your hotel should be Courcelles, line 2.

But there are probably many locals from Paris who will give you more in-depth information here.

It is in the 8th arrondissement.

When you look at a Paris address, you will see a "zip code"...for the hilton it is 75008. The last two digits are the arr. #

No need to buy ahead of time. You can buy tickets at any ticket booth. A "carnet" is a ten-pack, and costs 11,10 euro, while a single ticket is 1,50.

Note that a metro ticket will not get you from the CDTG airport to central Paris. You would need to get a RER ticket for 8,20 euro, which gets you on the regional train system. it takes you to central Paris, and allows free transfer to Metro with that one ticket. The RER stations and the Metro stations intersect. So the Metro and RER system together cover all of Paris.

Might sound complicated, but it is not that bad. Once you use it, it will become easier.

OK, evidently you don't understand that the arrondissement is in the postal code: 75008, hence 8th arrondissement.

Typically, the beige part is zone 1 and the tan part is zone 2...

I think we will taxi from the airport to the hotel. But would love to use the metro to get around the city. I have been looking at different travel guides and most don't have the Hilton Arc de Triomphe listed. I believe it is not very old. I saw it on one map, but could not figure out which area it was in since it is not really next to the Arc.
This will help with my planning. I would like to be knowledgeable about the metro system before I arrive.

When is your trip?

We're deciding between the Hilton ADT and the Eiffel Tower location currently, so I'd love to hear what you think.

You'll be fine with language. Do you best with greetings and be polite. I find it very important to greet shopkeepers when you enter with "Allo" or "Bon joir" and a simple, "Merci, auvoir" when you're leaving.

As for the Metro, it was very easy to navigate, you'll have no problems, just use the map in the Metro station.

Can't wait for our trip in March! Ah, just saw your trip is for June, so I'll give you the review.

We are set on the ARc location because the rooms have larger beds. (2 queens). We are traveling with our daughters. Yes, please post a review upon your return. I look forward to our trip. I know the pleasantries in French, but am trying to learn a few phrases with my car tape. :)

It is in zone 1.

There is no need to purchase metro tickets in advance. You walk into a metro station. There are machines that sell tickets. You buy them.

A carnet of 10 tickets is the cheapest way to buy them.
