Paris metro Navigo with kids ?

We are heading to Paris soon... we will be arriving on a Monday, so it looks like the Navigo is the best option for us. I am planning on bringing small photos for the card.

From what I understand, kids under 10 travel for half-price - but it looks like there isn't a Navigo kids option ? (kids will be ages 6, 8, and 10 at the time of the trip)

We could save a few euros by getting the Paris Visite kids card for the two younger ones, but my feeling is that it isn't worth it. I'd rather get the Navigo pass for all of us than confuse things.

any brilliant advice or do I read this right ?

The adults will want the Navigo Decouverte pass (not the Navigo), and there is no discount for children, so either you buy them the same or find an alternative. They are discounted on prices for regular metro tickets at 50% b/t ages 4-10.

There has never been discounts for children on the passes, because they are meant for adults, and a big point is to help their commuting costs. Kids obviously don't have that issue. The Carte Orange never had discounts for kids, either. There are special year-long discount passes for kids if you live in Paris.

There are discounts on the tourist pass for children, the Paris Visite, you can compare prices.

I see you thought of the Paris Visite. I don't understand your comment about it not being worth it. They are actually easier and more convenient than the regular passes and don't require a photo. It's just for adults they don't make economic sense.

Christina, I don't have the numbers in front of me, but I think the Paris Visite pass is quite a bit more expensive. I know it also covers discounts to places, but I'm not sure we'll use those.

travelnut is correct, I was incorrect - it is the Navigo Decouverte that we are interested in.

Since we are arriving a Monday (unless this plume gets worse - bleck!), I thought conventional wisdom was the Navigo Decouverte is better.

I could be wrong... its happened once or twice, you know.

For children, getting a Nav Decv the first time would cost 22.20€ (5€ one-time fee + z1-2 fare) and a 5-day Paris Visite (z1-3) would cost 14.45€. Another PV for 2 more days for a child adds 7.35€
- - so, about the same price but you don't need photos or to assemble the PV passes.
