Need best map or guide of paris metro system. I saw one several years ago that showed metro to take for place looking for. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Streetwise Paris map showed all the metros with the sites nearby. I used it exclusively in Paris for a month's visit combined with a Michelin map for getting outside the central area. I'm sure I picked up a "Metro only" map at my first metro station. You can buy Streetwise Paris at Borders Bookstore.

My Parisien friend always carries with her the Michelin Paris Plan, which I also have used for the past 20 years. It lists all of the streets, the Metro stops, as well as the bus and RER lines.

YOu can get Paris Pratique par arrondissement which is is about 5 X 7 inches and fits in a back pocket and has detailed maps of all of central Paris. The larger petit parisien 3 plans par arrondissement has larger maps of the bus and metro routes and is about 9 x 5 inches.<BR><BR>Don't neglect the buses. The metro is great for people watching but from the buses you can see much more.<BR><BR>There is also a site you can find to look at a map or picture of any street and another on where you can look at detailed maps of the metro and buses. Maybe someone knows the site addresses.<BR><BR>There is a map of just the metro and the tourist places but I found that it was not very useful after I became a little acclimated to Paris. <BR><BR>Enjoy! It is a wonderful City. My favorite.

Free maps of the m&eacute;tro system are available from any m&eacute;tro ticket agent. You can also get maps of the entire system (m&eacute;tro, bus, RER).<BR>You can also access the RATP (Paris public transportation system)web site at:<BR>http://www.ratp.fr<BR>There is a map of the system on that site.

Large maps are in display boards in the metro and also inside the trains. Study one and you'll find they are easier than NY subways. Simply find the destination at the end of the line (that includes your stop) and you know the name of which line to take.

I vote for The Paris Mapguide. Very thin, compact little book (approx 60 pages) which proved invaluable during our stay. Also contains area maps and places of interest. It was pretty much left folded open to the metro page and tucked in the side of my bag during the whole Paris stay. I used the heck out of it and did great on the metros (map is very easy to understand.)and this is from someone who never rode one before Paris.

The Paris Mapguide also shows bus routes by number on the streets. I take both it and Paris Pratique because the latter shows street numbers (it's also easier for me to use because it does maps by arrondissements).

Sandy, just came back and the Streetwise plastic map with the metro lines included worked fine for us. It's easy to carry and fold. B&N carries them as well.<BR><BR>There's a clear small map of the line over the metro doors in the cars as well with all the stops. It's not so complicated you would need a much more involved map than that, imo. <BR><BR>The Streetwise maps also mark points of interest, stores, government buildings etc in color coding, which I thought was handy.

I like Paris par Arrondisement--pocket size. Gives all streets with the Metros marked.

Another vote for the Paris Mapguide; since it is in book form, you don't stand there with a huge map spread out; used it constantly and have post-it notes on just about every page!
