Why is it that locals are not believed ?

WoinParis - it's because everybody is convinced we don't buy into the fantasy that they so earnestly believe in.
Reality often stinks, even in Paris.

I'm curious as to why the comments by those who live in Paris to tourists visiting are any less valid than the comments posted on this board by those of you who live in Paris. We have several friends who live in Paris and are citizens, and we meet Parisians & chat with them when visiting the city. On the topic of the mayor for some reason she did come up quite a few times when we were in Paris last month. There were plenty of disparaging comments about her and her policies. I certainly can't say that those who made the comments speak for all of Paris, but they represent a legitimate pov.
