Paris Marais Dining
 

We are in hopes of dining in the Marais on Friday Oct. 10th

Here are the restaurants/bistros I have found that look good

Anahi - 49 Rue Volta
Bistro de l'Oulette - 38 rue des Tournells
Le hangar - 12 Impasse-Berthaud
Le Framboisy -16 Rue Charlemagne
Le Careau de l'Isle - 36 Rue St. Louis

Please let me know what you think of my ideas and if you have any better suggestions please include them. We are do not need trendy or upsale but fun and yummy is always good!!!! We do not speak much French either. Wish us luck. Price from 30-60 euros is fine. Even higher if the food is wonderful.

Sorry, Friday the 9th.

I have eaten at both Anahi and Le Hangar. I prefer the food at Le Hangar overall. Anahi is Argentinian and while good, I didn't think it was that stellar. It is very popular though on weekends and if you are into French TV, you are apt to recognize many of the TV folks. My French mother-in-law loved it when I took her since she saw all her favorite commentators. Also, just FYI, Anahi is really at the far reaches of the Marais-really the edge....

I had one amazing dinner at Le Hangar where a friend of mine was visiting me in Paris and we ended up shutting down the kitchen at 1AM! The owner and I got talking about restaurant kitchens since at the time we owned a building with a restaurant below our apartment. So she said, hang around til closing and then she proceeded to give us a tour of the whole place. It was great. It is a really nice neighborhoody place. It is on a dead-end alley right next to the doll museum which is fun to visit as well during the day.

Another place you might like is the Dome du Marais 53 bis, Rue des Francs-Bourgeois 75004 Paris in the heart of the neighborhood. Here is the link from viamichelin:

I haven't been there for 1-2 years now but we used to send all our friends there because it is non-smoking. Now that isn't a big deal in Paris anymore. It is in a lovely old building the Chapelle du Mont-de-Piété. If you find it too pricey for dinner you might think of it for lunch.

Haven't been to these, but one of our favorites on Ile St. Louis is L'Ilot Vache on Rue St. Louis en Ile. We were just there a couple weeks ago for the 2nd time and it was as good as ever, 37 Euros price fixe for 3 courses. The lamb chops are divine. Also a very pretty room.

Thank you all!!!! I am choosing between Le Hangar and Ile St. Louis is L'Ilot Vache. Both very different. St. Louis looks like the perfect first restaurant in Paris!!!!

There's menus and views of the room with the beautiful table settings. The pictures don't do justice to the outstanding flowers on the tables. They are all different and very tall---most unusual.

Reserve because the room is small (maybe 14 or so tables). But we stopped in on our walk one night and reserved for the next night. I imagine a weekend night you'd need a little more notice, but maybe not.

There are some good choices on Ile St Louis. The Braaserie de L'Ile St Louis is a fine place for lunch outside (and others have said dinner was good too). Also Le Fin Gourmet is a good choice, their vaulted cellar is nice place to eat. Reine Blanche was my 'once every trip' place, they changed management, saw one good reviwe, but I have not been since so not sure how they rate,..worth a look.

Bistro de l'Oulette is excellent. I was there two years ago and again this past May with my friend Monica (Fodorite monicapileggi) and my daughter. Here's Monica's write-up of our dinner: "Dinner was delicious!! Louisa and I ordered the escargot appetizers. They were not served in their typical shells with butter and garlic, but with diced artichoke hearts and what looked like huge pine nuts, but I think they were blanched almonds. The appetizer was in a light green foamy sauce of some sort. Elizabeth had a cold asparagus soup. For my plat, I had the duck with potatoes au gratin and a salad; Louisa had a beef dish wrapped in a cabbage leaf and 'stuffed' with a pate/foie gras. Elizabeth had sea bass. All of it was very good! Decadent desserts all around with a chocolate like fondant; and I had a sort of apple pie with a crisp puff pastry on top and a side shot of icy/slushy Grand Marnier. Total bill was 150€ with a nice bottle of white wine, recommended by our waiter, and a round of aperitifs. 50€/$67.50."
